How long ago did you apply? For me it took a little less than a day.
It can get a little busy, there are only at present two 'game masters'.
Honestly though, it's worth just starting with the normal newbie helium mining anyway. Or get a loan from a friend for a proper transport, and the trading economy is more than powerful enough for you to quickly repay that and then be on your way back to normality.
