I've tried everything. I'm running on Vista, did the run as adminstrator, opened up my firewall to allow the program to access the internet, and still nothing. I can see the server fine and every other server for that matter. I've redownloaded the mod twice and still nothing.

I always get the cannot connect error. Help?

What anti virus are you using? AVG has become freelancer-unfriendly so you'll have to get rid of it to play.
Norton 2009.
Can anyone help me out?

2. ANTIVIRUS BLACK AND WHITE LIST:

The antivirus black and white list is where you can check if your current virus shield is causing problems with Freelancer and Windows Vista. If it's on the black list, look at the white list for known Antivirus' that work with Vista and Freelancer. To learn how to uninstall Black Listed antivirus', read further down the post.

Black List:

Norton
McAfee
avast!
Kaspersky

White List:

Avira
ESET
BitDefender

Looks like Norton might be the cause. De-install and try to connect again, if it works then switch to another AV programme from the White list.

Rgds
Norton is the best one I've found, if FL+Vista+Norton=Fail...then I guess I'm not playing Discovery. I'll keep searching for a worthwile fix to allow me to connect to the server. Thank you for the assistance.

Please tell me you are kidding. Norton is the absolutely worst anti-virus software that I have encountered, far worse is its all encompassing suite of applications.

There are far more capable and less invasive applications that cause fewer conflicts with other applications. I would suggest you investigate ESET Nod32 and Panda if at all possible. Both applications work more than capably and are tested and compliant with FL under Vista.

No, I am quite serious.

Norton 2009 works better than 99.99% of any anti-virus I've picked up, it uses hardly any system resources, and it stops 99% of all viruses before they even hit the system. ESET is horrible. I would not recommend that to anyone. I paid an assload for the firewall only to have it not even protect me from a virus that wiped out my computer a few months back.

If Norton will not work with Freelancer, then I guess I'm sticking to fourm surfing as I have been for the past...forever.

EDIT: And if people weren't such a*sholes, we wouldn't even need anti-virus, but there ya go.
Kaspersky has the best catch rate and reliability on the charts. Norton I believe is about 10.

Avast is free, and is an anti-virus leader within the freeware market. I share Turkish's opinion on Norton Anti-virus 2009.
Then you're crazy too.:P

P.S. I installed XP 64 bit on another HDD I had laying around, runs faster anyway.
