Welcome ladies and gentlemen,

Discovery has been struggling with reaching new players and making people log regularly throughout all hours of the day.
While there have been many threads suggesting improvements or policy changes to try and solve these issues, all have
fallen short of taking care of the root problem; Freelancer is old.

We need to modernize, get more slick, reach a wide audience and, most importantly, keep those cash cows coming back and spending.
SO. We do a complete overhaul and jump to the smartphone, the mobile gaming market is booming and a market leader when it comes
to maintaining playerbases and generating money from free games.

Ladies and gentlemen, I speak of course, of Freelancer: Discovery Mobile Edition.

The concept is simple, though I will go over several mechanics we currently have and explain how we will convert it to the mobile platform (and, of course, monetize it).

Character creation process:
1. Name and Avatar.
The money bag-err player, will start with 3 character slots. ($5,- per additional slot, or €5,- they won't bother to google conversion rates).
Upon selecting a character slot they will initiate the character creation process, starting with their name and a 'Build-A-Trent' character customization screen.
The 'Build-A-Trent' customization screen will have extremely limited choices for free players, 2-3 choices for the head, torso and legs respectively for both genders.
Additional choices for the Build-A-Trent customization screen can either be unlocked by achievements in game (near impossible) or spending an additional $1,- / €1,- per option.
After the player has created their custom Trent, they'll get to select a starting faction.

2. Starting Faction.
The player will be presented with a full list of all factions in the game, each with their own unique bonuses and reputations.
Unfortunately, only Freelancer, Bounty Hunter and Pirate are available for free to play players.
All other factions are available to premium members or individually unlocked for 1$,- / €1,- a piece.
Once a player has started their faction, they will move on to Starting Location.

3. Starting Location
This is where the player will choose in what area they will start. This is important because it will affect the players options and gear.
The starting regions are as follows: Liberty, Bretonia, Kusari, Rheinland, Omicrons, Gallia.
All regions will be available for selection, even for free players, with the exception of Gallia.
Gallia will be DLC. Because DLC should be dissapointing, this way we ensure people will buy it to be 'ironic' or 'prove people wrong'
Gallia DLC will be priced at $10,- / €10,-
Choosing specific factions might alter your hub map in your chosen region.

Now, you might be wondering "Why make starting areas free!? We could make so much more money!"
No worries, we have you covered. We will get back to this point later on.

Gameplay
1. The Hud.
The player starts on the homeworld of their respective region (Freeport 9 for Omicrons).
The player will have 40 energy to spend.
Actions cost energy to do.
Energy recharges at 1 energy per 10 minutes for free players, 1 energy per 2 minutes for premium players (gotta incentivise spending that cash).
Players will have the following actions available at their hub: Mission, Cafe, Ships, Equipment, Travel, Repair, Watch Add.

2. Mission.
Mission will offer the player a choice of what they are going to do in space. Other choices may be available depending on their starting faction.
Energy cost will be mentioned next to each mission.
Expected rewards will be mentioned next to each mission.
Expected risk will be mentioned next to each mission
The higher the expected risk a mission has, the higher the expected rewards
More rewarding missions cost more energy to attempt.
An example is as follows: Transport Starbucks Coffee and Donuts to LPI Huntsville. Risk: Medium. Reward: Low + 100.000 credits Energy cost: 3.

3. Cafe.
Players will be able to go here to get random rumors at the cafe, bits of lore as they are now, as well as faction bribes and a small random chance at special missions.
Special missions will have higher difficulty and rewards.
If a special mission is declined, that specific special mission will not be offered again until the player has done a mission.

4. Ships.
This is where the player can buy a selection of ships.
There will be up to 3 ships available per location, a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 2 of which will only be available for premium players.

5. Equipment:
This is where the player can change their equipment.
Equipment will be split between gear that can be bought with credits and gear that can be bought with premium cash.
Premium gear will of course be significantly stronger.

6. Travel:
This allows the player to travel to different planets, systems and, if they purchase gate access, even other regions.
Gate access is purchased for $5, €5,- per region (Liberty, Bretonia, Kusari, Rheinland, Omicrons, Gallia).
Region purchase is per character slot.
Traveling to different regions affects the available equipment, ships and missions.

7. Repair:
This allows the player to spend time repairing their ship.
This takes real life time or premium cash.
Premium members can spend energy instead.

8. Watch Add:
Allows the player to watch a paid add in exchange for a random (low) reward, more money for us, a little bit of endorphin for the money ba-player.

Missions
1. General Idea:
Missions will consist of several phases, more difficult missions are more likely to last longer.
During each phase a player has a chance to get interrupted
The nature of an interruption depends on the mission.
A transport ship might get ambushed by pirates, a smuggler could run into a police patrol, etc.

2. Combat:
Players will have the following options during combat: Fight, Dodge, Countermeasures, Run.
Each action takes energy.
Should a player run out of energy they will be unable to proceed until time has past so they recover energy, or pay, of course.

Were you an EA employee by any chance? You really have the spirit for being one.
hello you have been recruiting
too many guaranteed rewards, not profitable enough
add more ships to systems, have regular lootboxes for vanilla ships and premium lootboxes for premium ships, but the premium lootboxes can still drop regulars
why stop there?

For a flood thread, this is remarkably verbose.
