This is more or less my stance, because otherwise it just makes all the paperwork and remembering things that much more difficult.
It can be confusing, so the old name should be in a parentheses next to the new one.
Imagine how for 20 years that system was Omega-3. Then it is renamed both inRP and ooRPly. Archivation is sad. History is diluted.
Kyushu was probably called Tau-Something when it was discovered. Dresden Omega-Something, and so on. No idea what nomenclature Liberty used, though, as all of those systems have already been colonized and renamed during early Sirius history.
I don't think that good RP is necessary, but it is, well, good RP.
Seems like a pointless thing to waste devs time with.
