I'm not sure why your question went unanswered for so long - sorry about that. Perhaps because there is a slightly better
subforum for it.
Anyway, if I'm not mistaken,
- Equipment Type 1 can mount a Hyperspace Survey Module or Jump Drive Module
- Equipment Type 2 can mount a Hyperspace Matrix
- Equipment Type 3 is unused currently.
And for completeness,
- A Carrier Bay can mount a Docking Module
- A countermeasure hardpoint can mount a Cloaking Device.
