Union Activist Declares Martinique 'Hostage Crisis'; 47 Dead
New Berlin - The Kapital, and indeed the whole of Sirius, was shocked today when the emergency beacon of the Luxury Liner Martinique, which went missing three days ago, suddenly lit the system's comms up. The message, of which many Sirians have called a desperate cry for change, finally divulged the explanation for the ship's mysterious disappearance, and local authorities, including patrol wings from the Battleship Strausberg and Wildau, are beginning to comb the system sector to sector for the ship.

The Martinique, as many may remember being the ship that Orbital Spa & Cruise lost contact with on May 14th, was detected almost eleven hours ago, and while pinpoint positioning of the ship is not clear yet, the sources of the transmission launched from the ship were within the bounds of the New Berlin system. The boarders, noted Unioner activists lead by Yannick Starck, an infamous Union agent alleged to have been one of the key members of the Alster Gassing, sent Orbital and Rheinland lawful representatives a threat, urging a ransom be paid and no negotiators to attempt. As we can tell, at least forty-seven civilians aboard the ship have been killed, and no word yet has been released about the ship's crew or captain, with a promise to kill one passenger per hour every hour until their demands are met. Organizations have been made to prepare the payments, we've been told, but no official payment has been made as of yet.

While we cannot be completely certain as to the hijackers' motives, they appear to be political, with blame placed at the Imperial government and the Federal one before it. We will continue to keep the public alerted to this growing situation, and urge all civilians and traders to continue with their business as usual. Any visual sight of the Martinique should be notified to any Rheinland Police or Military officer at once. The KMID will continue to provide an up-to-date feed on this crisis, and we urge all Rheinlanders and visiting foreigners to remain safe.
