Upheavals within the Gallic Assembly

Marseille, Provence -
For several weeks, tensions have been rising between the Duchy and Minarchist deputies. Both states are being confronted with the Kusari invaders; and every state has been asking for more resources to be allocated to their own front lines. The Duchy has been particularly expressive in their requests as the Kusari Forces have captured Lorraine, and are currently executing a bloody siege on Nevers. Meanwhile the République has been trying to monitor the two rivaling states, and the military has been forced to coordinate their strategic plan with the growing influence from the Parisian Assembly. The Gallic Navy disputed these actions, stating the military should be independent from the political power of the House.

The situation was not resolved with the Minarchy supporting a vote of no confidence in the current leadership; later causing the resignation of Jean Besson, the President of the Parisian Assembly, on the 15th of October. Elections to renew the Assembly were held on the same day of Jean Besson's resignation, and the results were revealed on the 18th of October.

To the surprise of many, the Republicans were victorious; with a large push of the extremist party, thanks to their alliance with moderates and independents within the Republican Party. The new President of the Assembly, Dorian Lasalle made a short but resolute announcement after his nomination to President, the most important role in the Assembly: "My new government and I will immediately start to solve the internal affairs and a solution with the conflict against Kusari will soon be found. Then, a new era for Gallia will rise."

The disappointments were high within the ranks of the Duchy and Minarchy, and the reactions from citizens on Nevers, and Marseille in Provence did not take long to be heard. Police described scenes in Marseille, some containing violence related to the street gangs aligned with extremists Minarchy ideals, others only protests. The few peaceful protests held led to several dozen arrests but without reports of damage or injuries. The protests and the violence were contained relatively quickly on Marseille, and the authorities called to decrease the tensions.

Overall elections have opened many doors for the Republicans and closed some for the Duchy and Minarchist representatives at the Parisian Assembly. The recent conflicts have shown a deep division between the states, confronted to their most difficult challenge since their creation in 742 A.G.S. The final seat count sets the Republican Party as the single largest party with 55 percent of the seats, followed by the Duchy at the second place with 25 percent of the seats and the Minarchy with 20 percent.

The Democratic Federation of the Liberals Party (DFL), a radically left-leaning Republican Party, is arguably the biggest victor in these elections with their impressive 28 percent of the total seats available in the Assembly. The surprise and confusion is shared among all parties, including the Republicans, as the DFL is known for having radical ideals close to the Council fanatics or even the Maquis.

Nevertheless, the remaining of the Republican deputies have accepted to collaborate with the DFL for the greater good of Gallia, solving the internal conflicts and finding a favorable outcome to the war with the Kusari Empire. Many citizens within every state have shown their concern regarding the unexpected push of the DFL in the Assembly but the President Lasalle reassured them saying "Every state will be listened to and we will work with all the parties for the greater good of Gallia”.
