With the continued flow of malcontents and regular citizens disillusioned with the imperial regime, temporary safehouses and longer-term arrangements are a potential source of income for Rheinland's quasi-unlawful factions like the Unioners. Not every defector is a potential recruit for the underground resistance, but helping such people leave Rheinland behind may do more to promote the cause than a skilled fighter pilot or mechanic. Corporations are just as likely to ship someone down on their luck into indentured servitude on a company station, or to shuffle malcontents to their partners on the other side of Sirius - or so the story goes. To keep the dream of freedom alive, the option for a clean break must be able to exist.

With Dresden under heavy blockade and the Omegas having heavy Red Hessian presence, the most logical route to the Freeports in the edge worlds lies through Munich. With the aftershocks of the civil war all but settled, the route has seen a resurgence of activity from people unwilling to make peace with the new imperial regime. While Leipheim normally has no issue with handling a reasonable amount of traffic, the route has lately been disrupted by the increased Rheinwehr activity in the system. Without a safe way to send out transports the administration must either expand the station's living arrangements to house the increasing numbers of immigrants, or organize a convoy to relieve the pressure from the station's life support systems. With both the Rheinwehr and Corsairs gearing up for a large engagement, the aftermath of such a battle seems like the perfect time to slip out without attracting too much notice...

With military intelligence primarily occupied with looking for dispositional vulnerabilities of its multiple enemies, this would normally be a fair assumption. However, Rheinland has no less than three intelligence arms, with a resurgence in activity in both its police forces and the Büro. Old information sharing channels are being re-opened, and lower-level analysts are finally free to their heads together for some serious number crunching.
Higher than normal trade-lane network in both Frankfurt and Munich, as well as jump activity between the systems implies a steady accumulation of supplies. With friendly stations accounted for, the remainder must be going to the previously theorized bases inside the Shwarzwald and the Alps. Investigating these areas would normally require excessive Buro or Polizei resources, but with many Rheinwehr assets still in Munich undergoing repairs, combine short range operations begin to look more feasible. The military would naturally want one of their own in command, but that is a small price to pay for moving the operation from a theory to the planning stage.

Combat Area & Disposition

The UN group starts at Leipheim and has to reach the Omicron Xi jump hole. Two or more ships are carrying passengers (Crew, 1200 total) and cannot cruise, though they can use the thruster.
The DTR squadron starts near the Munich jump hole in Omicron Xi. They must attempt to link up with the UN convoy and escort them to Xi.
The RM taskforce starts near Passau, and must move toward the Alps cloud and attempt to intercept the convoy.
