OVERVIEW
When Omega-58 was sealed away by the collapse of its star, many assumed the Wild there had been exterminated. When the Jump Holes recently phase aligned again, these assumptions proved to be woefully unfounded. The survivors had sheltered aboard Kaarst Shipyard, which provided a miraculous safe-haven from the cataclysm. Many of the Nomads entered low-energy hibernation states to avoid withering away, however a select few remained awake, maintaining a vigil over the station and system.
Over almost a decade and a half, Kaarst was forced to cannibalize much of its machinery and ships to develop the pulsar harvesting arrays needed to sustain themselves. This done, the wakeful sentinels occupied themselves with foul experiments - tinkering with the forms of the remaining human hosts, or finding novel ways to blend Nomad and human technologies. Many of these experiments were dead ends, resulting in nothing more than needless suffering and malformed abominations. Some however, bore twisted fruit.
Kaarst’s Infiltrators now aim to return this Wild Experimental Research to Altair, while picking up Hybridized Equipment to restore Kaarst’s productive capacity. Local factions have already noticed the uptick in Wild activity. The Order sees this cargo as a dire threat that needs to be annihilated, while the Core see enormous potential for commercial exploitation. Regardless, Wild raiders have already begun to pour from Omega-58 as ships are reactivated -- these latest plans coming to completion would dump gasoline on an already smoldering flame.
