I'm the semi-proud owner of a Yacht, which basically sits on top of Newark and lets me make snide comments at whoever's in-system at the time (the best kind of Roleplay, in my opinion), and I enjoy flaunting this kind of wealth very much.

The problem here I see is that there's no variety. There's the Yacht, which is a sitting ship or a touring ship, and then there's the Royal Liner, which should probably be a Special Request ship only, imho (hey, I've got a story for it...), and in the end is a working Roleplay ship, and then there's the Luxury Liner itself, which is another working Roleplay ship (and a freaking whale). So, what I'm thinking about doing with some of my ample free time this summer is adding some variety to the lineup with smaller luxury vessels, ranging from sports fighter craft, possibly even themed after real brands of luxury cars, to full-blown luxury yachts, like Jinx's model on Curacao, but house specific.

What I want to know, however, is if this is actually worth doing? Would people fly these things? They're not going to be built for combat, the armament would be substandard, and they're never going to be huge moneymakers; they're sort of like achievements, for players with too much money - unless they want to RP road trips or bored, rich people or some such. So, should I bother trying?
...bump?
Why do luxury craft have to be underpowered?

If anything, I would suggest making them competitive with other civilian craft of their type - but ridiculously overpriced because they are indeed 'luxury'.

The Arrow Light Fighter might be a good example of a Luxury style ship - is it luxurious enough though?

I would propose breaking down the Luxury Line as follows:

Armaments: Same as a civilian ship of similar class.

Powerplant: Understrength. This should balance out any potential abuse of weaponry.

Hull: Understrength, emphasis on flight performance.

Impulse Speed: Increased due to superior performance of the engines, and lower ship mass.

Cruise Ramp Time: Increased.

Cargo: Lower due to interiors being generously fitted out with all the trappings of wealth.

Price: Money is no object for those who crave the finer things in life...
Roleplay in Freelancer doesn't all have to be centred around PVP. It would be nice to have more options for ships (and IDs) that allow us to explore non-combat avenues. So I approve.
I like the idea, it's something we could use in the Black Dragons. Can always use more RP vessels and ships for ferrying our high profile guests around in. Moving them between casinos and the like.
The only thing I found dissapointing with the Yacht is that it can't fire gunboat missiles:(
I wouldn't recomend making them house specific, more civilian like mentioned above. I also believe that the armor and such should also be very comperable to the civilian line. If one was looking for a PvP ship, they would go with the one with the comparable stats that was the cheapest. These would be ships that you would purchase to show off (I have a friend who is looking for that sort of thing right now) and RP, not neccessarally to go fight in. They do however have to be able to tend thenselves from time to time. Otherwise they will be major targets for pirates and the like.
Love it, love it, love it, do it Epstein.
If you make a sexy-looking SportsShip, i am going to buy one 100%!

try to make it like an actual sports car, stay away from the dull metal and make it look al flashy and cool. it could possibly make racing a more attractive thing.

My original plan with the Yacht was to make a line of them with variations.
Unfortunately I couldn't texture and the Yacht model itself had a few too many un-needed polygons, so it went boom.
Jinx however, offered to make his own model roughly based on the original design. What he came up with was better than my model anyway.

Unfortunately that means that the line of ships went boom too.

I would really really really encourage you to do this Eppy. Honestly, Discovery needs more non-combat ships. Right now the entirety of Sirius is based on combat vessels and a few massive trading vessels.
