I have an interesting question for you all. It came up in the Wiki editors chat and awhile ago and has appeared in some other places too.
Should there be information on the Keepers, and the Phantoms, and Mon'Sta and other things like these, on the wiki.
I'm having trouble reconciling the ideas of keeping a mystery in the game (not knowing = fun for me), and at the same time revealing other informations that is/are actually quite important and fun to read. For example, I very strongly think that weapons and ships locations should be public. There is only such many times you can "Discover" the same terrain and locations for factions that you are doing.
There are a few things to consider when thinking about this.
There is only so many times you can "discover" things again. Personally I'm getting tired of trying to find that damned Miners ID/Ageira ID etc etc, which is absolutely critical for my Roleplay, but takes alot of time to get. Same with ships. I know what ships I'm allowed to fly with my ID, but I don't know where to find them. I would like to see where I can get them from, quickly, so that I can start my RP, instead of "discovering" the same old spaces.
In Roleplay I would already "know" where to buy those ships and "Licences"(ID) and Equipment "weapons" as the company would supply them. But as a player I find it frustrating to have to go and do this ID/ship/weapon collection all over again. NOT knowing that info as a person I feel harms my Roleplay more than helps me "Discovering" things.
But on the other hand, I don't want to know too much about the Phantoms so that when I meet them, I never know what they are going to do. (That is the one of the same reasons why Keepers are so tried to be kept in the shrouds, so that people have a mystery to look forward to. It's also the reason why both factions are publicly lashed as "PVPwhore" factions so much, because people do not understand or are jealous, or stroppy that they can't get in for whatever reason (usually its simply too many numbers).)
But I think that the average player would be better off NOT knowing much information about the Phantoms and other secretive informations, such as SCRA, Keepers/nomads/all those other stories linked to them/Wilde/etcetc. How open is too open? How closed is too closed? I already think that Keepers informations should be kept OFF the wiki other than what is known about the nomads by humans.
By the same extension, and this is where my thoughts are coming from), what about the Phantoms ships... should the stats be on the wiki? like in the Shadow. I personally would like to see them blanked out and question marked, so that it leads mystery to the Phantoms, and excited-ness to the players of Disco 24/7 RP. Same with the SCRA/etc.
But other servers use this wiki too, and someone rightly said the wiki is for the MOD. I disagree with the wiki being for other servers, but I do accept that other servers USE the mod and wiki. So... After all that blather..
Is it better to have the wiki as a general source for all things (including ship selling locations,"special factions" revealed information, - so that all servers who use the mod can also use the wiki,
Or do we EXCLUDE certain information from the wiki, and keep the wiki all to this server only, so that people who play here can be surprised by things, instead of "knowing it all already" when they encounter a Phantom/SCRA/etcetcetc.
Think carefully before you answer. I know many would answer "I want to know everything", straight away. This does not effect only us or you or me, but other people and servers to. My feeling is to have this wiki for specialised for THIS server only, and allow other servers to use it. Jinx raised an interesting question similar awhile back about removing the weapon stats from infocards, so that we don't have people E-Peen-Stat-quarrels. And this post got me thinking on this subject yet again.
Wiki articles on
Is the Wiki mainly or only for us, this server?
Is the wiki for every player of the mod, including other servers?
Should we have all information on it? (makes for a useful and worthwhile Wiki)
Should we have some information held back (makes the Wiki LESS useful as a information source, but potentially better for mystery and gameplay, which is not what a wiki is about I believe.)
I'm in two minds about the whole thing. On one hand I want to know common info like ship locations, and common ship stats like the Patriot, but on the other hand I dont want to know Phantom ship stats. But on the OTHER hand I want the Wiki to be useful too. Discuss.
Mystery. It is a key feature of any game.

Wiki articles on
- Phantoms, ship, ship
- Mon'Sta - This is a good example of what I want to do.
But on the other hand, I as a Keeper player would like to go and see what my ship costs and where.
- Nomads, ship
- SCRA
