I used to do this all the time on a website I helped run... But that way doesn't seem to work so well. So here I'm asking the Artistic Geniuses.. How do you do it?

Err, create your signature the way you're used to, then divide it into as many blocks as you need links.
So to say, you're 'cutting' your image but as you'll just post the [img] command one next to another, it'll appear as one image. In order to see how it's done just look out for some mapped signature (Tenacity has one, for example), click and 'select' it as if you'd select several files in explorer. You'll see where the individual cuts are that way.
For example, Sindrom's signature. I did that how Sleipnir described it. (Sure, there's a 1px differation somewhere, but he insisted on keeping it like this. Oh well)
