Ok so I have decided to delete all my faction characters and go the way of the much hated Indy.
The reason for this change is of course to keep any semblance of sanity I have left and go back to enjoying the game of freelancer.
Why have I made this decision you may or may not ask?
Well this is not just a mindless rant but something I feel needs to be discussed.
Lately I have joined a few factions, either ones I wanted to RP as or ones that I feel had a good idea and could benefit from another member to help with their activity.
After I joined my second faction I noticed something that alarmed me, something that was only confirmed as I joined each other faction.
Their are a couple of people that have gotten themselves in the high command of multiple factions, now their is nothing wrong with this is there?
Well no except when they start mixing the RP of their characters which is something I have seen far to often.
I have seen smugglers escorted through Bretonia because they were destined for someones other characters base.
Not only that but the character actually guides his other characters clan mates how to act to ensure the safe trip.
I have seen a Zoner character immune to pirating due to his having another character that is part of another faction.
I have seen a member insinuate that he will get his way with a corporate faction because he is a member that is in a command position of a navy on both sides of them
I have even seen a certain member describe how people shouldn't mess with him as he is a command member of atleast 4 large factions and is in a admin only faction.
The worst part of all of this is that these are senior members teaching the newer players that this is the correct way to metagame.

Now don't get me wrong here, if this is the way you wish to play then that is fine, it just does not sit right with me.
I must be wrong here because my twisted morals made me think of another way to play.
As a pirate I have pirated Kishiro| transports just like all others that have come across my path, it just seemed like the right thing to do as my pirate did not know the transport, but I see this is not something shared by alot of the people that I look upto to show me how to correctly RP and are more than happy to enforce what they call the correct RP on everybody else.
So all I can do to remain happy is to leave them to it.
Have fun with your 3 or 4 factions everybody as long as they work together then I guess everthing will be sweet.
Perhaps there is a way to fix this, perhaps not.
All I know is that I want to enjoy my playing experiences and would be much happier if I did not know this was happening.
Sure I can guess at conspricy theories but if I do not know for sure then my sanity will prevail.
So as said before I am going the way of the much hated and complained about, and much happier indy.
I will of corse still RP as much as I have been but will no doubt be told that it is not up to scratch as I can not be controlled by someone elses holy decisions.

I imagine that that guy, at least, was lying. As for the others, I have seen no corruption in any of my factions apart from you're more likely to get a reasonably fair fight if you know the people you're fighting, and that's not corruption but merely fair play.

Quite a few of the factions I'm in, people will actually go out of their way to disadvantage you on other characters. *Glares at Zelot.*
Don't have that problem here I think. It is essential that a player joining leaves personal preferences at the door. To be honest I was afraid that players who are die-hard fans of conflicting sides would cause problems within the third side faction combining so different players, but it was proven wrong - while everyone have their own opinions they tend to respect opinions of others even if personally disagreeing with them. But then again, my personal experience with player factions is rather limited: prior to forming my own faction I was only playing for one faction, it was HF, and later for a very short time in like two or three, but given the low activity and participation in those others that doesn't really count I think. Guess I am not much of a multi-faction player, and perhaps most curiously is that I consider myself more independent than many of those who have a tendency of repeating they are independent on every corner now and then. Ironic it may be, but that's how I think.
Actually I dont think the person in question is lying - I think the person actually believes his own hubris...

It is a pretty low act at any rate.

I have sent you a PM Markus - keep in touch!
Actually, as a pirate, i ENJOY pirating peoples transports that are from the same faction as me, i even charge them more! Ofcourse it's all in good spirit, and they pirate me back. But yes i know, it's not the same in a few factions... but you cant do much can you? And besides, indies aren't hated, unless you have a known reputation for being a lolwutter, if someone hates on you being an indie, he's the one who needs to be put into check really... not you.

1. If you have proof, then submit them to one of teh Admins. I reccomend Cannon, Korrd, or Xoria, or Hoodlum.

2. The way to fix it is to report your proof to the admins.

3. Welcome to the club.
Ye Gads?

If someone actually says "you shouldnt pirate me because they are a "leader" in 4 factions and in an Admin only faction" - Pirate them harder - and yes, you can tell them an Admin told you that.

I cant stand weasels, and anyone who would say something like what you said that they said? is a weasel.
They are a pain eh? Be patient and persevere, same group provides me with experience on dealing with that matter. It's a headache, I know. Stick to cannon RP, you can't be forced into anything outside of the parameters of your faction's ID so powergaming your group into something it wouldn't do will fail. They won't stop immediately there, between their aggressive powergaming and almost perpetual metagaming you'll find yourself in the same situation as us. I believe Dab had pointed out best the obsevation once in a thread. Metagamers and powergamers can get soo bad if left unchecked, they will not listen in RP with their chars and the recipients of their actions are left with no choice but to confront them in an OOC manner which will devolve into a flaming trial by forums. Notice that we have several such threads that had, unfortunately, surfaced over the last several months. Hang in there, tough it out, and remember to stick to your RP like a planted oak tree. Good luck.
Hm.

I have an RP like the one you described. My flag trader, Benjamin Epstein, is the great-uncle and grandfather of not one but two ex-commanders of the 101st; half-Maltese, he ran a lucrative Cardamine-smuggling operation for 45 years and donated most of the profits back to the Maltese military, which he also flew with for a short period of time in his youth. Now he has bought his retirement ship - the former OSC Flagship, a custom Royal Liner, which was repossessed and put up for auction because the tourism market tanked and OSC couldn't pay its bills. Chaos ensues. He now runs (mostly) legitimate (mostly) human cargo after 50 years of dedicated service - and he expects not to be bloody pirated, particularly since most of his profits are still donated (both in-RP and out) to the Maltese military. Any Outcast who hits him up gets a talking to. Any Outcast who persists gets a much sterner talking to, possibly involving event horizons.

And you're telling me there's something wrong with that, that two years of RP right there? If a player expects to not to be pirated because they lead a faction that's crap, but if a character expects not to be pirated because of who he (the character) is then people ought to respect that RP if it pertains to them.

That RP is dangerously close to power-gaming, if not power-gaming already. (Apologies, but yes.)
