This used to be dead, but we know the dark arts. We found more cookies.

The first one sort of worked out, the second I don't know anything about, but I'm sure the next few will be great!

We will begin by not formally inviting the Rogues, Xenos, Junkers, LN, LPI, or LSF. Instead, we will lay the foundation of the event series and incorporate additional participants with time. Anyone who does stumble into the event, however, will be welcomed! Rogues, wouldn't want to rely on your NPC patrols to notify you of dangerous activity, would you?

For information about the concept and backstory, please take a gander at this thread:
Pittsburgh Debris Field Clean-Up

Pittsburgh Clean-Up Event #3!
After initial set-backs brought on by heavy Rogue and Xeno opposition, the organized effort by DSE came to a near-complete halt. The smelters were kept running only because of a trickle of scrap coming from the many small-time freelancers and Junkers trying to earn a living. The Debris Field sat unmoving, noticeably unshrinking, as a giant wart on the face of Liberty and DSE. Voices cried out in the streets and media, but were apparently unheard.

In secret, DSE executives contacted their ALG counterparts in secret and off the Lane Network and NeuralNet. They sat down around tables in dark rooms aboard Ankis and Yachts and planned a renewed effort. Within mere months, the plans were done incubating and were close to hatching. In an effort to delay the awareness of violent oppositional factions as long as possible, the operational center would be located far away from the busy gravity elevators of Pittsburgh.

Participating Factions
  • ALG Waste Disposal
  • Deep Space Engineering

When
Monday, 27 September, 2009 at 18:00 UTC
For help figuring out what this means in terms of where you live: Fixed Time World Clock

We may start earlier, who knows.

Where
Somewhere around Planet Pittsburgh. Meet in orbit and look scary until we get started.

What?
Post here if you have questions, comments, concerns, criticism, want to come even if you haven't been invited, or want to come and for whatever reason can't let it be known any other way.
I can definetly bring up four Movers at all:

[ALG]-TGX-Danube (Thorsten.Stahl)
[ALG]-TGX-Muldenkipper (Ayem)
[ALG]-TGX-Unimog (Ventana)
[ALG]-TGX-Westerwald (Maj.Sovok)

Our three ships should arrive some minutes before the estimated time and find a suitable place to mine.
From the DSE side we will likely have 4 ships:
  • DSE)Angus.Franson, Starblazer escort (SheleSt)
  • DSE)Blackburn, Mammoth transport (Sprolf)
  • DSE)Mammoth.1, Mammoth transport (Eyvind)
  • DSE)Mammoth.3, Mammoth transport (ed_philips)
We will be able to vary this composition to improve efficiency, increase or decrease cargo capacity as the need may be.

For those DSE members who have not been notified of this event yet, perhaps because you don't use Skype, post here if you would like to come, or just come.
This event is coming to a close, though we still have a few people working away in the field.

Participation was great:
  • [ALG]-TGX-Danube, Mover (Thorsten.Stahl)
  • [ALG]-TGX-Muldenkipper, Mover (Ayem)
  • [ALG]-TGX-Unimog, Mover (Ventana)
  • [ALG]-TGX-Westerwald, Mover (Maj.Sovok)
  • [ALG]-TGX-Zetros, Heavy Lifter (Coriko Lameos)
  • DSE)Angus.Franson, Starblazer escort (SheleSt)
  • DSE)Blackburn, Mammoth transport (Sprolf)
  • DSE)Lifter.1 and DSE)Mammoth.1 (Eyvind)
  • DSE)Mammoth.3 (ed_philips)
My tally for the amount of Scrap Metal salvaged comes to a bit over 14,000 units; it looks like the northern section of the debris field is becoming pleasingly devoid of scrap metal!

Stay tuned!
Final update: The total number of units of Scrap Metal salvaged during the event was, more or less exactly:
27,900

I would like to get in touch with a Development Team member (Seth offered to help back when the event series was under discussion) to figure out what the in-game impacts will be for this and coming events.
I could pull out my LPI for security. Glad this is back, it was epic and I thought it died.

EDIT: Er, wait, it already happened?
