Hulloes! :yahoo:
My name is Angga and I come from Indonesia.

After a very long vacuum from playing Freelancer due to other activities, I installed it again (2 years after I uninstalled it) and my friend recommended me Disco mod.
Due to the nature of my country's internet connection, I am sorry to say that I am unable to play online :(
I tried to play it for once. I got an instinct that there's a mineable stuff in the blue nebula behind Planet Erie. I got there and my instinct was correct, there's helluva lot of helium. After going back and forth, suddenly I got an invisible laser carnation from nearby Rogues :angry2:

Again, my instinct said that with this horrible lag, I could not continue play online...
No worries, it's not the server's fault, it's the city's lack of internet connection :nono:

...

and days after the last invisible carnation...

After a while, my friends did the same thing by downloading Disco and we re-assembled our long lost residential complex LAN network. After reading Disco's Wiki, I shall say this mod is full of awesomesauceness :yahoo:

That's why I picked bomber role right after I made 50M credits on the cute little server using Percheron (and that Percheron character is an OORP money-making character, thus I swore to my fellas not to shoot because... it's an OORP character.)

While others played mainly for fun and co-op games, I and another fellow played with a little bit sense of RP-ing but not a strictly RP gaming.
My RP seems very classic (probably it's worldwide and boring RP which has been told here and there):
The name is Pointer Skipper (yes, I choose a cheesy name )
He is a Junker who remained neutral until Kusari breached Leeds, a place where he makes deals and bargains. Seeing as the business will go down because of Kusari's intrusion, he unwillingly decided to side with the Bretonian military (who caught the character once because he brought counterfeit software hard copies).
While he was sent on a communication interception mission, he caught in a skirmish between a Blood Dragon pilot and some Kusari Navy ships. After the skirmish was settled, he realized that the Dragon pilot was his fellow from Japan whom he met for numerous business deals.
The friendship grows into camaraderie and Skipper decided to work as a Bretonian agent working for Blood Dragons to cripple Kusari from the inside.

...

My friend who loves Japan culture agreed with my RP proposal, so he decided to be the Dragon's pilot. He took the role as VHF pilot and I took the role as bomber.
For the ship itself, I chose Barghest. I assume Barghest is way too common for bomber pilots, am I right?
The ship's setup is below standard:
4x Sammaels
2x Belial (they don't actually shoot to the front, I guess the info in Wiki is a little bit misleading)
SNAC
Mini Razor

It handles pretty good, I recall it feels like piloting a Dromedary in vanilla. I did manage to bomb my neighbor who used a gunboat in 1 on 1. I got a courage to raise the challenge by assaulted a fleet of Kusari battleships:
1 Destroyer and 2 Gunboats, along with 2 Chimaera escorts. Yet I failed

As for the random questions:
1. Is my failure caused by the superior number of NPC Destroyers, Gunboats, and escorts? Or perhaps it is a lack of my knowledge about bombing and its tactics?
2. If my Barghest setup is not that pretty, what is the best setup as a hybrid bomber which can defend itself from fighters and able to eliminate destroyers?

After reading some threads about bombers, I guess my first post might ignite some flames because it contains a sensitive matter about bomber :(

P.S.
And the questions are actually the main reason for me to register.. (at least I'm being honest :D)

P.P.S.
And I love taking screenshots for Oblivion too, but that would be out of topic for Freelancer xD
Hello and Welcome!!

I can sympathize with the invisible carnation issue. Now to try and answer your questions: 1. I'm not really sure, but I think its because of the NPC's. 2. I'd suggest swapping one of your primary guns for a Paralyzer missile.
Hey. Welcome to Disco!

Firstly, couple issues. One, Hogosha. A Junker would never have gone on "business trips" to Kusari because of the Hogosha. The Hogosha are basically the Freelancer equivalent of the Japanese Mafia. In this case, though, they're very close allies to the corporation that put the current Kusarian regime on the throne. They view the Junkers as their main competitors, and thus, Kusarians as a whole really don't like Junkers. Actually, they shoot at them. So no"business trips" without some kind of elaborate RP as to why you didn't get turned into carbon pulp.

Now, the Dragons. Dragons are very honorable. I don't know a ton about them, and someone who actually knows their RP well should really answer this question, but from my understanding, they aren't huge fans of the Junkers. In addition, it's generally more the GC than the Dragons who work with Bretonia against Kusari.

Then there's the ship and weapons. Liberty Rogues... huh? I know they have a good bomber and nice guns, but they have nothing to do with your character. Use the appropriate ship and guns. For a Junker, that's the Recycler bomber and Barragers. If you're working undercover in Kusari, you could use Kusarian civilian ships, such as the Renzu line, or general civilian ships, such as the Roc, Eagle, and Griffin.

Now, you're questions. NPC ships have insane aims with those heavy weapons. Also, the NPC cruisers have the same shields as player cruisers; while one bomber can technically take them out, two is far more effective. The big NPC patrols in Disco aren't pushovers.

As for killing caps, I'd suggest some Debilitators for Gunboat shields, a SNAC, and either a Nova if you're good or... something else if you're not. I'm no expert on bombers, obviously.

Hope it helps.
Thank you, Crucial_Mistake and Denelo for the fast reply :yahoo:

As for my character, then... yea, it's actually OORP for strict servers such as the official one
Our cute little server doesn't regard RP that much because our aim is to have fun co-op gaming, such as... taking down a NPC battleship

I might change my RP proposal to suit better with the official rules and to suit with my fellas' casual gameplay :D My own RP proposal says:
Quote:He is a Junker who remained neutral until Kusari breached Leeds, a place where he makes deals and bargains. Seeing as the business will go down because of Kusari's intrusion, he unwillingly decided to side with the Bretonian military (who caught the character once because he brought counterfeit software hard copies).

My character in true RP will not go to Kusari  Leeds is the farthest point (no worries, I do and still respect the official rules ;))

So... taking out a fleet of NPC cap ships is very difficult
Mmmkay, maybe I was way too reckless for being a lone bomber:laugh:
I might try other bomber ships for unlawful factions. Pray for me that I won't waste my hard-earned creds in my OORP money-making character
Wow... You are one of those people who can make massive bricks of text without talkinglikethisrandomnesslololololage. I've read it. Anyways, welcome!
Hello mate, sorry I can't answer your questions but still welcome mate.
Welcome.

If you have the time, come to Kusari for a little bit. It is just about the least played house...
Welcome to discovery.. and have fun
