DSUpdate.exe is a small program that downloads updates for the discovery mod and installs them.
A long time ago around 4.85 beta 1, we required players to run DSUpdate.exe when they wanted to start Freelancer.
Because this caused a number of players problems we changed the way this works in beta 3 (or 2 or 4 or something).
Since then everytime you run Freelancer, the game contacts a web server to check for an update and if one is available, Freelancer.exe automatically starts DSUpdate.exe.
As a result of this you don't need to directly run DSUpdate.exe. You can; it causes no harm but there is no need to do it.
