Just a few things I've noticed as a newbie coming in. I daresay I have the rules down, I'm good enough to ask people if I'm not sure, I'm even roleplaying pretty well. There're just a few things that aren't made easy-to-find /anywhere/, be it wiki, forum, or especially in-game. There are two main ones:

1) /restart. I read through everything that was in my hold. Could you not have put the /restart info into that stuff? I never knew this existed until today, after creating two characters and wondering why EVERY one of my maps was empty. Please, as I've seen suggested, make it a recurring message on the server, or put it in the included rulebooks, or a one-time message on new character creation. Something. Please? For everyone who comes after me?

2) Guard systems. WTH? I'm sorry, but IRL I know roughly where Area 51 is. I know I'm not allowed to go there. If I didn't know this stuff, it's not like I could just wander in and then get shot. There are fences. There are signposts. There's the fact that everyone knows its there even if they don't know /what's/ there. I've wandered into three guard systems accidentally in my first two days. Virginia, Yukon, and Vespucci (ask the leader of HF, he intercepted me and turned me around). I have no way of knowing whose system is what. I had started to rely on the wiki, but it's outdated enough to not always be right. Can't there be a nav buoy outside of the jumpholes, or simply a list of them somewhere in-game?

These two things would make all new players, including RP-ready ones, much more capable of jumping in on day one. Just please look into them. It'd do us all a world of good. A lot of worlds of good. A Sirius Sector of good?

Edit: Maybe this belongs in just the General Discussion forum. Sorry. Feel free to move it if necessary.

As a rookie myself, I'll reflect some.

1., /restart... Yeah, it's hard to find. At least harder than the rules. I guess it will be better, it's a bit of a new feature. Newer than me, and that's something. But I already see two merits. First, it makes people browse around looking for information, and that's the best newcomers like us can do here. Second, imagine a first-timer seeing this option, and restarting at Gallia for example. I wonder how long a CSV can survive there without some routine. It would be disapointing. I guess it can be the same at Alpha or Gamma. Liberty NPCs are just a nuance.

2., Guard systems. Well, no worries, you won't accidentaly wander into Aera 51. It already have a fence, and what a great one... About the others... Vespucci is kinda off-limits, the fact that you were escorted straight out indicates that no signpost is needed there. And usualy if you get into a guardsys, you'll be shot imediately, most cases with realy big guns. That's better than a signpost. And in my first week of flying around I've been asking for JH coordinates, and most of the time the answer was 'dont't stuck your nose to unknown jumpholes, for you can bump it real hard'. And if not? Well you were lucky, be happy about it. It's not like breaking a server rule, it would only piss the locals.
1) Agreed. One shouldn't have to crawl through every thread in the forums to find /restart, even if one might be too new to actually be able to get around in Gallia/wherever. It's a pretty new thing though, so I'd expect it'll get more known eventually anyway.

2) Hasn't this been discussed before somewhere? Either way, yeah, agreed. I've been around for ages, ever since 4.84 (okay, I know, so has 90% of the other people here, but that's not the point! D: ), I still randomly stumble into guard systems and go whoops.
Hazard buoys would be nice, or perhaps weapon platforms or something. Not sure, but either way, some sort of warning is nice.
Restart is a relatively new addition, I don't think there's been a mod update since its implimentation. Meaning that there hasn't been any way to add anything about /restart.

As for guard systems, I believe it's come up before, and I agree with you.
I wasn't aware of how new /restart was, I don't feel so bad missing it now. I do hope that it is committed in the next update or at least the near future.

I understand the sentiment of 'no harm done' as far as entering guard systems, but it's really not in-RP to stumble into a place like that. At all. The fact that in Virginia I was killed so quickly I had to go in AGAIN to see why I'd been killed isn't a good sign. Maybe that's a simpler solution? Moving the automated defenses a little further from the jumphole exit, so that your scanner shows you XXXX GUARD and you say 'Right, I'll be leaving now,' before you're fired upon.

Benefit of the doubt should be applied. Especially to civilians! (I was tagged as Civilian at the time).
Yukon isn't a Guard system, don't worry.

Perhaps we could name guard systems with guard in the name, e.g. Vaspucci Guard System
Or you can create those massive scenery objects that other mods have.

They provide like a massive board type thing with text on it. We could make them say 'Guard system' and place them outside holes to guard systems.
I flew a startracker into the heart of Omega 52. Hat should teach yeh something about not dieing in a guard system.

I flew through Gamma, 91 and 94 in a SCRA LF. I'm not sure which is worse.

My bad. I went through Yukon to Cassini. I was really exploring that day. Actually, I survived both into and out of Cassini. Virginia owned me twice. Vespucci owned me once, then I was neutral to the LH Guard but a player stopped me from exploring:(
