I had an idea about a fun little project that could result in some great RP and also a little pvp. I would like to create a sort of vessel that is both nimble and able to pack a decent punch. Freighters do this job to great effect and it is for this reason that I want to fly one as a mobile base/home and defense platform. I want my vessel to travel around doing odd jobs for people like escorts, buying stuff and delivering it etc. I'll be using a Mercenary ID and Freelancer IFF. Now, I need to know what ship the community recommends out of those listed in the poll (Just post whatever ship you think would work, but those are the ships I have tested and like). Throw some suggestions and general ideas at me, the idea is still in it's basic stage and can still be completely overhauled if necessary. If you have any tips for load-outs that I could use please post that here as well as your choice and explanation.

Id reccomend a Pilgrim Slave Liner - you dont HAVE to use it for slaves. Its a great ship, load it with clas 3 or 4 turrets and win is gaurnteed. Especially if you felt rich and Cap6'd it.

Slave liner:
180k base armour, + cap 8 = 720k hull
10 guns forward, all transport type 3 = 3000x10 = 30k damage / round
3900 cargo
CD
CM

All in all, a nerfed cruiser with slow turning but epic cargo, damage and armour
Go for the CSF if you want to be more shady. It's a great ship.

Edit: I've also heard good things about the Grizzly, though the cargo space is limited.

Aknii = AU 8 = 470 cargo
3 lvl 10 guns = 2 codes 1 sidewinder
1 CD = train cd
5 turrets = Deb + hullbusters
1 mine = Nuclear

For scouting ahead for a miner and destroying some bombers that get in the way = perfect.
Payment you ask? 470 ore and 2 million for every obstacle you remove.

470 ore = 4-5mil depending on ore. Best thing is he doesn't have to pay you with anything but time. It will take him 5 more minutes to mine out 470 ore, you'll tractor it, and things are good.

RAT has more cargo, but doesn't have the codeweapons. It has a killer armor tho.
Slave Liner would be the wrong choice if you are interested in doing escorts every now and then. Plus: It's a Liner, no transport.

I suggest to take the Anki. Looks ugly but it will serve you well.

Different class? hell, no. It fits your idea as posted quite well

Btw man, you can use anything that has a CD. Keep that in mind. Although the goal should eventually be to kill the obstacle, but you can easily scout ahead, see a pirate, engage and draw his attention while the transport passes.
Ok, so what does everyone think of the other choices? I like the Anki but it was blown away by the agility of the Bactrian and also it's gun class mounts (class 9 and class 5 turrets). I don't really want to purchase codes as that's just another expense after the cap 8 armour (yes, I'm really pimping whatever ship I get).

EDIT: also, Ivan....What is a RAT?
