So I got the idea from
http://discoverygc.com/forums/index.php?sh...mp;#entry887456

It would be very cool to be able to mount Corporate Containers on trains ;D

Then your really know who's hauling the goods.

Essentially just a normal cargo container, but with the Company name on it. Would give a bit more customisation, even if it were only for trains and the Large Transport.

I assume this is possible?
just retexture the vanilla containers according to the company you're modifiying it for, and you're done. or you could be the cheeky ****, ignoring what i say, and build new containers and new textures for them entirely.:P

but chances of them getting ingame? i dunno. sure it looks good to look at, but thats about it. they dont serve any other purpose really, (unless im missing something)
So pretty much like all the containers you can change on the trains already.

Pointless, but looks cool XD

Someone had to do those, so these can't be that hard XD

I suppose we could just forget about texturing anything, or make any new ship models at all; we could ignore all the shouts and screams about new gun models; it's not like any of that serves any purpose really.

That off triangle on the rear of the Barghest, no sense in fixing that. People may get bothered by looking at it all day, but it's not like it actually serves any purpose. It would be easier to just remove the texture and be done with it.

Unfair? I apologize.

Flavor is important in role-playing environments, more important than combat balance in my sincere opinion. I think I would enjoy Discovery a bit more than I do now (which, naturally, is saying quite a bit) if the dev team balancing teams took a few months break from balancing and made completely useless additions to the mod.

I really do.

Storage containers are far simpler than liners. I think I'm gonna take a break from my wretchedly confusing Liberty Liner and brick together some boxes. It's not like I'm particularly good at modeling, I could use the experience.
Wow, what a Censored slap.

/ontopic

Well, a nice idea, but now that all the Houses have their own 5k transport (none of which use cargo pods) it'd be a fairly limited gesture.
I had to read your post a few times Eyvind, cos at first I thought you were having a go at me...

Actually, I'm still not sure XD

But Doo iit!

I know YOU'D love to see a convoy of Storks heading through Colorado on their way to a Construction site with DSE plastered on the side.
bitching about it wont do much. if you cant get someone to do something, do what i do. do it your damned self. you'll be more effective at it. tell you what. if flavor is so important, why dont you work on all those containers as well as their textures, and the hitboxes for them as well. you can be the Flavor Flav of discovery. how about that? you get your own nickname as well!

take it from me. half, if not all the dev team is busy with not only dev work, but their own real life. ive had little to no time recently to even play a simple flipping game, but i tried to my hardest ability to finish off all the commitments i had for discovery (which i have, by the way. the gallic JG is done and working, the HF VHF, gb and soon to be bomber are done and ready for testing, the unioner VHF, which is now going to become a rheinland or corp escort VHF is done and ready for testing, and the gallic trade lane model is 90% done). some of the stuff that is being done takes alot of patience and time, because quite alot of modding for freelancer is based heavily on trial and error more than anything, and only a select few know how to do it. it would help if more people would take the time to learn and how to do it, but the chances of that happening are slim as is.

how many threads have i read from community members regarding ideas, but out of them, how many people have actually gone through to get the required work for the idea to work completed? people say being an admin is a thankless job? the dev team is pretty much the same, to be quite ****ing honest. all the threads that lead to martin (mjolnir) getting flamed because he's the guy who agreed to take the fall for all the changes introduced by the dev team (half of which weren't his ideas to begin with, but he tried as best as he could to keep it balanced). sure, there may have been a bit of biased balancing in certain cases, but to be honest, anyone who plays the game and joins the dev team thinking "ill make unbiased decisions" is living in a dream world. everyone, including me (case in point: vespucci's modding work and the general theme of overpowered house of pain) has a little bias in them. some hold it back better than others. and before you get the idea that im defending martin, im not. im just talking about how all of you lack the basic level of respect for a group of people who do a thankless task so you can play a game happily with each other (lolirony).

the barghest model was done by AoM who is pretty much MiA. ideally, he should be here fixing the model, but since he isnt, it hasnt been fixed. why? because all the good modellers are either busy with RL, or with fixing/working on their own equally important stuff. if that triangle is bugging you so much, why not grab a decent 3d modelling program, check out tutorials for modelling and texturing here or the starport, or google in general, learn what needs to be done, fix it, and submit it? you'll be doing your part for the mod, as well as fixing a bug on the model.

so next time you decide to rage at the dev team for ignoring tiny changes that have no impact to the actual work they are doing, i suggest you think twice about the tone of voice you choose to use, and think for a second "hey, if this work is so easy, instead of bitching, ill do it myself and help the dev team instead!", and this goes out to all of you. pointing a finger at someone is easier than actually doing work to fixing the problem.

-------------------------

now that that has been addressed, ill be waiting to see results. good luck! ;)
Well, I'm certainly glad you took the time to post that completely unneeded expose on the Dev team.

I'm quite aware of the the issues regarding prioritisation, as Eyvind is too, I'm sure.

I merely wanted feedback on my idea, and as you can see, Eyvind looks to be showing enough interest in the project to give it a try himself.

Trust me, if I had the skills and the bandwidth required to do these things, I would. It's the fact I don't that I post such things to see if others do.

Blah, now I've gone and been hypocritical with this post.

Back to the feedback, please XD
' Wrote:bitching about it wont do much.

My post was most definitely not a rage at the dev team. It was not bitching, it was not complaining, it was not even meant to be negative in the slightest way. Moose-antlern! I even apologized for the light hearted sarcasm before I gave my down-to-earth reply.

On top of that, I did quite clearly say that I was going to try to do it myself.

I can see where your reply is coming from, but at the moment I am feeling highly insulted by it (EDIT: Forgotten and forgiven!). Don't put me in the same pigpen as the people you meant that post for.

Bottom line, as far as I am concerned: Your post has no place in this thread, though I do apologize for not making myself clear. Forum communication has very narrow bandwidth compared to normal human interaction; it is often better to assume the best than read the worst out of something someone writes, someone everyone should bear in mind.

Thank you, I'll need it!
If this goes ahead, and a Bowex container gets made, could the corporate icon get worked in?<strike> I'll edit it in in a minute.</strike>

That's the icon right there. If it was going on a cargo pod, it'd be cool if it could be made to look a little more weathered. So the colours might be slightly dulled or something.
