Quote:If you ask me, they should be removed from the mod entirely.

I havent used a single codename in... well, at least a year now - not since 4.84 anyways. Everyone should be using their faction's guns, rather than running around with 'top secret' weapons that mysteriously keep appearing all over sirius.

We agree, this is a era that is most perverted.

I would hold onto my horde for a month, then, in the second month, double the prices across the board, maybe triple the price for the rarer ones. It would be joyous.

As for everything else said in this thread, meh. If you don't like it, don't pay as much attention to it. Especially if it's a fringe problem like this one, it's much easier to not pay attention to, and not worry about. Quite frankly, someone who wins with codenamed weapons will probably be able to win without them, and somebody who gets them to compensate for a lack of skill, still won't be able to win.

What he said.

If people are willing to spend the money, let them? You can only profit off stupidity.
' Wrote:That's the way it should be. A freelancer or merc can always apply to use zoner guns, or IMG guns, or junker guns, you just have to be approved, and most are out to pvpwhore and thus wont be. The way I see it, you're trading in the ships and equipment available to you in exchange for a much larger ZOI and much more freedom.

Or weapons from pretty much any faction, provided you are actually willing to work with said faction(s). Currently my freelancer is working for the Outcasts, GC, and Blood Dragons. Mercenary ID allows tech usage from all three of these with permission, so obtaining equipment from at least one of these factions is very possible. Through these three factions, I could potentially get contracts from elsewhere (Outcasts recommend me to the Rogues, which eventually might end up recommending me to the Mollys, and so on)

As for the ZoI part, you could keep your old full civvy-kit freelance ship for missions that require a large ZoI, and use the faction tech for the missions that don't. No reason why a freelancer can't switch between ships.

This, right here, is true freelancing.
Making them Rarer would suck... I think you should do is make them all worthless, common.

Their lore should be altered to reflect their overusedness. Make it some big corporation started manufacturing the codenames en masse.
Now that Codenames are no longer usable on bombers, they should be speciliased considerably - some given slight homing, some give really high speed but really low damage, some made like bomber guns, some made even slower but with ridiculously high speed (sort of like a mine), some should have really low fire rates (like a wing-mounted mini-razor), some should have really high refires with high drain and high shot dispersion (like a quick spray) some should be like shotguns, and some should have an almost infinite shot dispersion with really really really high damage (shoots basically all around the ship randomly with a 16 refire but high drain or something), some could be like fighter-mounted flak cannons, some could be like laser swords on your ship (or something, that's just a wacky one there), some could have high speed and high mass but no damage, and just knock enemy ships around, or some could shoot really wide projectiles with negative velocity (sort of like an energy screen behind them...?).... the possibilities are truly almost endless as to how we can make guns specialised and unorthodox. We have the skills to do that.

They're not bomber weapons any more. Only fighters can use them. They're Codenames. Prototypes. They should be special, unorthodox, and sometimes just downright weird. At the moment, they're all basically the same. 600 m/s 2.0 guns with high DPS whee. And that's it, nothing past that.

I think that they all need to be drastically revised and made into the specialised weapons that they should be.
I don't use Codenames, because I prefer Class 9 Faction guns to them. I only use Codes on One of my Ships, which is my Freelancer Eagle, and reason is, Laser Weaps are not really my type, I prefer Low Refire, Heavy Hitting Plasma Type over any Lasers Available.

But, In General, I agree with the CodeSpam which is getting really annoying! There are at least 6 Codes Dealers in front of Manhattan that have overall of 120 codes on them, Means they can gear up 30 (!) VHFs with Codes! What's 'Rare' about them then ?
If you kill a ship with CODENAME weapons are you able to beam them in.

I don't know how you could fix this problem other than limiting the number of CODENAME weapons one is allowed to have.
My two cents:

Best case: Wipe all codes. Announce it ahead of time then do it. Then make them random. Make the guns random. They appear ONCE per week/month. Prehaps make the wreck location random too.

Other option: spam them. Make them sold all over AND factionalized. Each faction has a few codenames that belong to them. Cerebus and Jade belong to Rhinland (found on old rhinland wrecks) etc etc. Just make them expenseve.

Also the occasional codename for caps would be nice too. Prehaps an anti fighter gun that actualy works ?
