Most of us have played the Freelancer Camapiain and seen the into clip of Freeport Sevens destruction by Nomad Bombers. Everyone thinks Freeport Seven was Zoner controlled however I have reason to believe not.

I feel it was under the managment of the Liberty Navy for a few reasons.

1) When they dispatched a fighter wing to escourt that transport in the clip it is a wing of Liberty Navy Defenders.

2) The station says 'Navy Command This is Freeport Seven we are picking up unkown contacts on long range sensors'

3) Not all Freeports are Zoner controlled. I.e Magellen with the Freeport under IMG Contolled.

4) The Survivours of the destruction were sent to Manghatton. If the station was Zoner controlled they would send them to any near base not half the Siruis sector away. Wired...

5) Zoner Freeports are never just a jumphole away from eachother. Not in the Original Freelancer anyway. This has changed due to the Freeport just off Theta in the Zoner Guard Base (Due to Discovery not Microsoft) - I might be wrong just thinking.

Thoughts?

It wouldn't make any sense if you look at it from a geographic point of view.

-> devs not caring.
Nitpicking, but in a good way.
Where is FP7 again?
Wouldn't make sense if it's in the middle of nowhere.

Well Sigma-17 (I think is the system) Is out of any house control. Liberty wasn't at war with Rhienland or Kusari in the campain (to start) and Liberty always likes to be out in far reaches so they might set up a Freeport to start expanding.

Freeport Seven Infomation.
It's definitely Zoner, that's not in doubt. Read the logs in your quest box (f5), and read all the rumors surrounding FP7.. The Liberty Defenders coming out to escort the transport was a mess up by the game designers as they were in a rush to get the game released, since the project had been cut short, along with much of the funding.

Oh, alright. Well It was justa thought. I thought I was on to something good then, but its turns out not.

Thanks for confirming my quires.
"Citizens everywhere are still in shock at the news of Freeport 7's destruction. The station, operated by the Zoners, served as a neutral trading facility for all walks of life from around the galaxy. In the face of the catastrophic loss of life and the growing consensus that this was most likely a deliberate attack, people are struggling to grasp the motive behind this senseless act of violence. "

That's a Vanilla News item.
I was quite enthusiastic about this at first, then I looked at the script. Here goes:

SCENE: SPACE RTC 1: START: FREEPORT 7 DISASTER

SUPER:
Station Freeport 7, Sigma 17 System

SHOT 1:
Long shot of the station slow dolly around. Far out in the Borderworlds, the large Zoner-controlled space station Freeport 7 goes about its business. Given the remote location of the station in the Sigma 17 System, space traffic is light the only ships in the vicinity are part of a transport convoy that is preparing to leave the station and return to the Kusari home world on New Tokyo. The station is hailing the transport leader while the camera is slowly spinning around the station:

SA-14, were picking up unknown contacts on long range sensors. Were dispatching a fighter wing to escort you out of the system God speed.

The transports are leaving near frame on the lower right as two fighters arc around from behind the station to upper frame left, arc across frame, and exit near lower frame right just as transports completely exit frame. Continue slow dolly in on the stations command center.

Medium close on station control tower now centered as focus. Stall dolly in.

GMG Station Glorious, or whatever it was.

Stuff like that. People here argue about it. It's not really of any great consequence.

A bit like a wing of Daggers taking out a Rheinland fleet. Or a man in a Valkyrie destroying a vast shipyard and numerous Nomad battleships by ramming one.
Well, now that you bring up the GMG Glorious issue, here's some material:

DX_S033X_0302_DEXTER.WAV
DEXTER HOVIS
He contacted me to take him even further into the asteroid field to an abandoned mining station called The Glorious.

OBJECTIVE: TAKE TRADE LANE TO GLORIOUS

The player is given a waypoint at the mouth of the exclusion zone to the Glorious, which is contains broken tradelane pieces that mark the route to the station. He is attacked by a random encounter of two to three Rheinland fighters en route to the Glorious.

On reaching the waypoint, the objective updates as above.

OBJECTIVE: FOLLOW PATH OF OLD TRADELANE TO GLORIOUS

When the player nears the Glorious, he spies four weak GMG ships (ge_fighter) near the station, which is surrounded by four Rheinland Heavy Fighters and a Rheinland Gunship.

The Glorious turrets start firing on the Rheinland ships. Two of the GMG ships attack the Gunship two attack the fighters.
