Hello everyone,

As this is a RP server I wrote this article to introduce you to new roleplay methods.
When I was flying around I noticed that some of the Roleplay of other people can be far much better!
Why not making more detailed roleplay like with ''emotes''.
''Emotes'' can be used for many great things, it can show feeling, make RP more dramatic and much more.
-Fights as in PvP aint that much of RP in my opinion. Yelling ''Engaging the enemy!'' and then opening fire I mean... Situations like this can be made such more dramatic if you use RP!
''Emotes'' could make fighting situations very dramatic, just as far as you want.
Also it could be in some situations for some people more fun to ''fight'' in this way, ''why?'' you say?
Well for less experienced players, but ''die hard RP'ers'' could it be more fun.
Ships, weapons and other equipment wont really matter anymore.
The thing that matters is your own RP.
Here are some examples to show you what I mean:

< Tries to get a better vision of his target, holding his hands at the trigger ready to fire. When the moment comes he unleashes the fire of his weapons >

- Other player: < His ships gains several hits, some explosions could be seen. Fire is comming out of his engines. > ''Im hit, Im hit!''

[color=#FF0000] Ofcourse this RP method brings some bad sides too. You have to keep it fair, this means no POWEREMOTES. ''Poweremotes'' Are ''emotes'', wich dont give the other player a oppertunity to do something back or give him a decision what will happen.
Like this example:

[color=#000099] < Fires with all of his cannons at the hostile ship and watches it explode >

-The other player here cant decide now what will going to happen with his own ship, this can be seen as a poweremote. To stop poweremotes make ''emotes'' where you are sure of that the other player can decide what will happen to him in the RP, is he getting hit? Do he dodge it? Are his shields up or down?

Here follows another example to show a little bit what I mean:

< Flies behind her target and launches a missile, in the hope to hit the ship with a deadly hit>

- Other player: < Knows how to dodge the missile with a looping and tries to get behind the hostile ship instead, trying to give himself the upperhand >

All of this new thingies could make RP a little bit more RP like and maybe even more realistic in some situations. Sorry if my English grammar sometimes may be bad or if its a chaotic topic to read, because of the colours and other things. Its just some weeks ago that I tried to pick up the game again.
I hope that you understand what I mean with the ''Emote battles'' and that you would like it. Have fun!:D

Yes, I get what you're saying.
People already tend to do these things, they just place * symbols around an 'emote', and when the character speaks, that's just written normally.

For example:

*shows Spazzy the one finger salute* Go watch dragon porn, stupid Rogue!
Like so.

*Nods a bit*

Yeah, people already tend to do this sort of thing, as you're right, it does make things more immersive and perhaps even more dramatic.

Good on you for posting though, for those people who -don't- do this to see.
actions like you described are generally played out in game. This is live roleplaying, not written roleplay so things are slightly different. Not much point sitting there in an action space shooter game writing about shooting each other. Might as well just do it over a chat program like skype.

Emotes for what your character does are used by some people, including myself. *sigh* or *cough* and other stuff.
Well, you can always attempt to do certain actions on other players, but they shouldn't be forced.

What is RP? Baby don't hurt me, don't hurt me, no more.

Concur. If this were strictly written, I think this'd be good, but as it is... I don't know, sitting in front of another person -saying- everything that could be done seems... Anticlimactic. Aside from the, "Will cyber 4 creditz" aspect.

Of course if you're RPing say, a boarding, this is really one of the only ways it can be done. But if two people are ready and raring to go at each others throats and you text it out, I think it may be a little ridiculous. Especially when each side would want to win, thus being played out to infinatum.
Well, I have to say..
1. PvP is actually easily in-RP as long as you don't just go RED ENGAGNI PEW PEW. It makes perfect sense for an outcast to shoot a corsair, i.e. PvP.
2. As previously stated, this is live RP. Why type it out when you can act it out? I mean, you would go *cough* because your char can't cough (there isn't a cough hotkey, for example), but you wouldn't go *shoots at ship*, since you could simply just shoot the ship. I mean, yes, it can add drama, but...
3. Typing takes too long.
4. Personally, I don't see that much...immersion going on if you see someone typing *steadies the trigger, aims, and fires at the enemy ship* when the guy obviously isn't shooting, just typing. 3 comes in here; it would be awesome if you could integrate PvP with emotes, but typing takes too long and you can't dodge/fire properly if you're shooting
5. Too much abuse is possible, poweremotes or not. For example:
Person 1. *Aims carefully and fires*
Person 2: *dodges*
Person 1: *Circles around, fires a missile, and looses a burst of plasma*
Person 2: *dodges*
Person 1: *flies in and looses a Mini Razor at point blank*
Person 2: *dodges*
And so on. I think you get the picture.
6. Personally, I think PvP is more fun than sitting there and typing out the PvP.

Apart from what's given above, "emotes" would be awesom.

Oh, and 7. Let's not use words where they shouldn't be used. "emotes" comes from "emoticons" which have to do with emotions (e.x. happy, sad, angry, etc.) shown with icons. For want of a better term, I'd say "action text".
"Emotes" (I didn't know this name for it) have a place in Disco, but combat isn't it. Unless you're Zapp or similar, who can type as much in combat as out of it >.>

When RPing a diplomating event, emotes are priceless. Have you been at the Treaty of Curacao signing ceremony? If you were there (or any similar event) you know what I mean.

It is often used elsewhere to describe things you can't show directly. I wouldn't write about pulling the trigger and watching my projectiles if I can express the same by actually doing it, which has greater RP value. How could it be immersive (or fair) for my opponent, if I just said *gets behind the enemy ship in a surprising maneuver and sprays it with laser fire*. Seeing me go past and watching the projectiles impact must be so much more entertaining...

Edit: Shameless plug:
Go watch the Treaty of Curacao event, it was the best event I ever participated in.

I agree with the people who said its live RP and with randomguy64 i mean seriously it would be kind of stupid as he already explained alot of people would do this:

Person 1. *Aims carefully and fires*
Person 2: *dodges*
Person 1: *Circles around, fires a missile, and looses a burst of plasma*
Person 2: *dodges*
Person 1: *flies in and looses a Mini Razor at point blank*
Person 2: *dodges*

so live RP is the best in my opinion
