I have been watching this game for the better part of a year. It does look pretty good, however this isnt the only one Ive been watching. The Space Exploration genre is about to get two new beautiful rivals.
I found this one which isnt in alpha stage but they have a video that looks amazing. If we could manage to do this with disco it would be a beautiful experience.

Dynamic universe that constantly evolves, ship to ship combat, space stations, trading, all the great things that freelancer had, however, it has one thing that freelancer doesnt. Dynamic planets. You can fly into the atmosphere and low and behold theres a planet there, and not some diminished looking, badly textured rock. It has poles, it has grasslands, mountains, swamps, everything. I heard tell that they would be adding colonization also, so keep an eye on this gem. Something tells me its going to be far better than black prophecy, though black prophecy does look like a good HD Freelancer attempt.

Moving onto the point at hand, this Black Prophecy of which you speak looks somewhat intriguing. Interesting at least. Although they need a new narrator for that video... Unless they wanted it to sound like SSB.
Impressive.
I just hope it lives up to the videos and is playable on 'non-supercomputers'.
Otherwise, it looks very, very nice and the closest thing to Freelancer I've seen since....well, Freelancer.
EDIT: Just had a look at Infinity..... watching the videos is like watching home movies that someone has taken using a really high quality cam corder, the images are that good.
If they looked any more real it would be completely insane.
It's so late here that it's starting to get early, so it could be that I'm tired, but seriously, go check out the videos.

Seriously though, I'll play both if the moneys right. Though I'll probably end up on Infinity more often than not. They have a download-able pvp standalone on that website though. It doesn't include the planets though, they're there, just cant fly into them.
Both look pretty awesome. The narrators voice for the Black Prophecy trailer is very annoying though... I hope they don't use him for in game characters.
too bad the open beta is french only... I was signed up for months then heard about that...
