So I've been doing some thinking today, as I am apt to do when I am at work and there is a lull. I'm beginning to understand why people have said factions are important. Otherwise there really isn't much to do except to run missions off the board and just troll space looking for something to do.

To that end I am realizing that RPing my character they way I thought I wanted to will be boring No one I can find is doing what I am trying to do.

I feel like I'm going back to the drawing board. It's like having a games master reject a character idea. I very much do not want to go back to the Hallum Nebula and spend the next 4 days raising money, but that seems to be the nature of the beast.
Have you checked the bounty board? There's quite some money to be made there.

-But- I'm guessing that since you're new you aren't yet skilled enough to be really successful at collecting bounties.

So at first, I suggest you should join a combat-oriented faction and if you need cash fast, a trading faction - much quicker way of making money than helium mining. HINT: Some factions even give you a trading vessel for free - in Kishiro's (and maybe some other) case even if you're not a part of the official faction.

Also, you can use the /givecash command to send cash to your other characters, you don't need to build every one from scratch.
Well, when your oldest character (of two) is 4 days old. There just isn't a ton of cash to give in either direction.

I realize that Gasden is likely going to sit a while. A fun character to think about playing (and maybe run some escorts for someone else with) but I know that I am going to do two things:

1) Run a Miner to hopefully generate some Capital. I would not feel right joining a faction with this character as I do not intend him to be anything more than a financial capital builder.

2.) Join a military faction somewhere. Currently considering Liberty or Rheinland. This is far more likely to be my main.

Still have some math to do, figure out what total puts me at the right spot to properly outfit a VHF or Bomber.

In the end I'm just a dad with two kids looking to have fun in Disco without the flat out grind common to MMOs.
So looking at a potential ship build in terms of finances, I'm discouraged.

36,695,586 Credits to buy and properly equip it + some minor things like scanners and what not.

A run of Helium that takes 6-10 minutes = 135k. Thats 271 Trips.

Now I know that at about 6 mil I could upgrade ships, maybe snag a Bumblebee and start trading, in turn raising the total money needed to over 42Mil, and that sounds bad too.

Just thinking out loud .
Now, I'm not in Kishiro, neither have I ever been... But I've come across this: LINK

Basically, because of activity in Kusari and trading corporations in general, some are giving away their ships for free. Now, if I found something like that as a newbie, I'd jump on it, basically. Lets you buy a Bumblebee transport, which is quite a big step up from mining helium, trust me. If you don't know the trading routes, then THIS should be of some help. After some time, upgrade it to a bigger trading ship. Then, with the big fishies, you can earn 35 million in just over an hour.

Downloading FLCompanion is also recommended for establishing trading routes.

Getting a loan is another option. You can earn ****loads of cash in a big trader... You can repay the debt in a couple of hours of trading, though the deadline is usually a week.

Furthermore, I suggest checking the ship sale subforum. You can get very good discounts on used ships there.

If you need any more tips, feel free to ask.
Welcome aboard mate, enjoy you'r stay.

It wouldn't be legit by any means for me to do that from an RP sense. I would be taking their offer with the intent to deceive. That's not me.

I'd have no intention to play Kishiro long term.
I don't think they expect you too. Ivan probably hopes at least some that would receive this cash would do it in the long run, but if you don't... *shrugs* I just don't see many (if any) strings attached.
And believe me, 7 million really isn't much for factions... Hell even for players like these.

Also, there's still the loan option. You can buy a decent transport and fly under independent colours (Independent trader, smuggler, freelancer IDs etc.) if that's your cup of tea.

The loan sounds more appealing. I just am not comfortable with a short term. I have a special needs kid. No idea how many days per week I can play.

It all comes back to a grind somewhere...
And a moron just PVPd me in the Hallum nebula without warning.
