Hello finally,

I am VERY happy to have found such a great place to play Discovery. I have NEVER played Freelancer (unwrapped my copy from Target.com yesterday) before and after 2 days of stick time I am happy to be the proud papa of my very own Raven's Talon - IR-7 decked out with 6 Class 9 guns.

Quickly becoming the terror of space pirates all over Liberty. Even more proud that I had zero monetary or escort help after getting going at Erie.

It did take 4 restarts for me to figure out that mining was the way to get the cash needed for a ship that is actually fun. I hope to never see the Nebula on the dark side of Erie again.

So, this is the part where I am supposed ot have a clue as to what I want to do... yeah that's where I am stuck. I ID'd Merc so I can actually engage in some contracts, make some money escorting and trading and generally just navigate around until another opportunity presents itself.

I'm looking for suggestions as well. Killing pirates is all well and good, but it gets lonely solo all the time.
Welcome to Discovery!
First thing I can suggest is you play the Single Player Campaign if you haven't already, cause Discovery Lore is based on the Vanilla FL, so knowing what had happened in 800 A.S will help you much with making things happen in 818 A.S:PAnd then, Nice idea about gettin a Merc RT and stuff, but I'm curios, what Class 9 Guns are you using on your Ship? Because you see, according to Tech Chart You can only freely use Civilian and Zoner Weapons as a Merc, and for others, you'll gonna need Permission from the Holding faction, Other than that... See you in Space and Happy Hunting!:)

Also, Check these Links, They might come in Handy;
  • Complete Version of Server Rules
    - Reading and Understanding all these (Even though it might get a bit confusing in the beginning) is essential for Survival (!) on this Server!
  • Community & Forum Rules
    - Aside from this link, there are certain rules for each Sub-Forum as well. You can find those in pinned threads of each Sub-forum.
  • Technology Usage Chart
    - Want to make a New character with a Specific ID? First read the ID and its restriction carefully, then check this chart to see What Ships and Guns you can use with it.
  • Discovery Wiki
    - Need Information about any Faction, Ship, or Equipment? You'll find what you need here.
  • Server Commands
    - There are many useful Commands available on This server, which are really useful, You can find a complete list on the Wiki Page.
If you have any questions, or need help, You can always contact anyone from This List,
And when In Game, Look for those nice guys around with [The_Angel] Tag, They sure know how to help you out.
Also, you might like to spend some time reading our Role-Playing Hub And even decide to join in! Remember, Server Roleplay comes first, but then, there is Forum Roleplay, which can be really enjoyable if you are the 'Writer' type!

So, Don't be afraid to ask anything you need, and ... Enjoy Your stay!;)
Be a pirate like me. Get a Roc, be a pirate, and pirate miners. Very fun. And on good days is profitable.

Anyway, welcome to Disco and make sure to have fun and join some player factions.

All of my armaments are civilian. I will admit the Tech chart is very confusing to me but I was able to discern that Mercs can equip Civ gear freely. I stopped off at Rapongi Station en route home last night and picked up 4 x CL-f "Flashpoint" Civilian Heavy Laser Cannon and 2x CP-l "Debilitator" Civilian Improved Mk II Pulse Cannon.

I am fully engrossed in the wiki. In lieu of playing the single player campaign (which as a father of two IRL I just don't have the time or desire to do) I am consuming as much history via reading (which is a better means of retention by me anyways) various sites on the original Freelancer.
If you use flashpoints, I suggest using Debilitator mk Is instead of the IIs because mk Is have the same speed as flashpoints. Which makes your aiming more accurate.

Also, spend some time checking the bounty board and make a hit-list. Remember, you have to screen-shot the victim's ID and their death message.

Good hunting!

Hadn't even considered projectile speed for accuracy purposes, thanks for the tip. Where is the bounty board exactly. I've been taking escort jobs and in game defense contracts.

No not that type of escort.

Bounty Board;)
I am starting to believe factions are a myth tho. Meaning I have not had a meaning full interaction with anyone in game apart from the miners around Planet Erie.
I sense potential in this one. Welcome to Discovery, I believe we've met before, in-game at least. But as far as tips, like others have said, you may wish to join a player faction, Liberty and Rheinland seem, (to me anyways) to be the more popular of the nations to join up (I'm in the Rheinland Military, *wink wink nudge nudge*), though Bretonia and Kusaria could use solid players. As far as meaningful interactions, as a Navy-tagged Mercenary you won't get much trouble from the "good guys" and too many pirates just do so for the money, not the interaction, perhaps starting conversations with random people, or trying to reason with pirates might land you something good. Anyways, good luck on Disco.

Nice to meet you out of game.. also nice to see you are a good RPer and leave the conflict in the universe. I won;t be running Navy tagged Merc much longer. But I'll be in Liberty space a spell more at least. I haven;t hit Rheinland but made my run through Bretonia a few days ago.
