Well, how about it? Theres a distinct lack of long-range support classes in the mod, Cruisers being able to fire one LM, at most 2, then drained. Battlecruisers can spam them, but really they are light artillery.

What if we made a class of ship, cruiser size, armor, and agility of a heavy cruiser. Only four cruiser turrets to protect itself, two on each side, and a heavy cruiser plant.

However, give it foward-firing or side-firing missle bays, able to fire more missles than any other ship, but be unable to mount Light mortars effectively. This ship would practically require escort to be effective, but would exell in teamwork. (promoting interaction)

(this idea requires a custom missle for the class, to avoid being abused by other classes) perhaps make the missles like the foward guns on the gunboats. little arc, but hard hitting.


The roleplay reason for such a ship would be to have a long range strike capability, as well as supporting allied ships. The vessal, since would be a cruiser class, would not be able to pirate or stop smugglers outside the exeptions in the rules. heavy cruiser agility makes it unable to doge heavy bomber or close-in fire, but the armor gives it a bit of survival ability. The turret placement would be to have two cover each side, for battlerazors or solaris or primarys, but if mounting a normal weapon there you lose defences.

What are your thoughts n the matter?
I personally would give a thumbs up to that. The missile frigates could have less firepower than mortared cruisers, but more accuracy and hits with stability.

Edit: Perhaps they could even have the orientation to take on smaller craft, rather than bigger ships?
That is a missle gunboat. Im refering to a TRUE missle frigate, not a gunboat with duct tape torpedos. Also, there was no need to gravedig.

(4.84) I used a missile gunboat as a close-medium range escort craft. Using missiles annoys fighter and de-shielded transport/small capitals pilots. It ends in flames, a lot of. Which in turn derived in a general astronomical increase in missile turrets energy requirements for 4.85.

If people didn't complain, it'd be a wonderful Idea. But as they do, I hardly see it implemented.
I personally like this idea...

I pushed a missile boat a while ago and ppl were like QQ NO THX.

well, i mean, they were nicer and more wellspoken than that, and had some valid points too.

The problem with implementing a entirely new class of ships is the amount of work that would be done.

i mean, you would need at least six new models, right? one for each house plus corsairs and outcasts, unless you want it to just be faction specific.

i wantz one tho.

Well, nothing says that a generic open-for all hull wouldent be usable at first. Also, by following the logic of "its more work" means that no new mod versions would be made, because that "is more work".

I fail to see a downside to adding another RP role and shipclass to the mod, especially when it just gives more options to the already existing cruiser class.
