Well, how about it? Theres a distinct lack of long-range support classes in the mod, Cruisers being able to fire one LM, at most 2, then drained. Battlecruisers can spam them, but really they are light artillery.
What if we made a class of ship, cruiser size, armor, and agility of a heavy cruiser. Only four cruiser turrets to protect itself, two on each side, and a heavy cruiser plant.
However, give it foward-firing or side-firing missle bays, able to fire more missles than any other ship, but be unable to mount Light mortars effectively. This ship would practically require escort to be effective, but would exell in teamwork. (promoting interaction)
(this idea requires a custom missle for the class, to avoid being abused by other classes) perhaps make the missles like the foward guns on the gunboats. little arc, but hard hitting.
The roleplay reason for such a ship would be to have a long range strike capability, as well as supporting allied ships. The vessal, since would be a cruiser class, would not be able to pirate or stop smugglers outside the exeptions in the rules. heavy cruiser agility makes it unable to doge heavy bomber or close-in fire, but the armor gives it a bit of survival ability. The turret placement would be to have two cover each side, for battlerazors or solaris or primarys, but if mounting a normal weapon there you lose defences.
