So, I was thinkin about making a new char, but instead of wasting some cash and time to try it myself, I decided to ask first.

Even after the Mining nerf, there are still plenty of those who spend most of their Online time in their Hegemons. Still, even though there are plenty of Miners around, there aren't many escorts or 'Light Miners' helping them.

Imagine one of those usual days when you're sitting in the field and shooting rocks, and a Mafic with Friendly ID comes in and offers a hand. He would charge you for roughly One third of your profit to help you fill your cargo, and 2 extra million if you want them to escort you to the sell point as well.
Will you accept their offer and hire them?
If yes, please include your ID and the field you usually mine in, and if the price is reasonable or too high/too low. If no, include the reason why You won't accept an offer where someone helps you fill your Cargo twice as fast, and will grantee that you won't get pirated neither in the field, nor on your way to sell the Ore.

And please, only reply to this thread and vote in the Poll if you actually Are a Miner, this is not in flood so it doesn't get spammed with irrelevant +0s by those who don't even own a Miner or Hauler.
Zed would hire both a helper and an escort/scout. Time and credits safe. And Zed pays for the helper, maybe half a hauler, and for escort 10%, maybe more, depending on how much trouble is avoided.

Zed
I do both, and fly escort and buy ore, and so on.

But escort i do usually only within the samura faction soley because most players have a strange idea of what they want to pay their escorts.

Thast why there arent many escorts around, miners like to pay pirates and then rant about their outragous demands.

i dont hire anyone because i want all just for myself, i do the mining, i sell it, i protect myself...

but especially because my char is like those old folkes during the gold fever, the type of guy that would shout at you with a gun - "get out of my proporty! thats my motherlode!"
Yes, but only for escort. Mining alone is more profitable than in a group and the payment for the escort is nothing compared to what I get. So yeah, you you do escorts for only 2 mils it's awesome. I usually pay the escort 4-5 millions for a run from T-23 to New Berlin and 2 mils on the way back.
' Wrote:and for escort 10%,

There is your problem with escorts right there.
With an 5k full of ore, the escort does a quater of the job; two parts mining, one part hauling, one part escort.
And you want savety for 10% ?

I pay 25% for samura Escorts and 20% for all other allied ones (even if they would be Kishiro), and its still hard to get escorts.
For both Escort & Mining,

But when I'm on my pirate I see few guys in O7
5-6 miners & one escort, When escort dies he switched to his IMG Fungoat.
Quating in system chat, that died player was my friend & you have to pay for this pierat...

Plus miner follows with "Also my brother is in the corsairs so leave me alone" / "I have another char in Sairs, I will see you in Gamma"
to
"I have some contacts in Gamma among Corsairs, better watch your back in Gamma....."

What I find much more wacky is that miners regularly F1 at the mining site and switch to their haulers without second-guessing. It's especially controversial in places with extremely hostile environment (radiation, pirate attacks, mines). Of course this observation is biased, as those who do it properly cannot be seen doing it (which is the whole point, whether you do it at a base or somewhere in the middle of nowhere). Anyway, once I've had a hauler come to a stop in the mining field and asking "mind if I use F1?". Upon receiving a negative an answer of "no, please don't do it here", the pilot started to cry like a baby. ("oh duude whyy?") I kept mining. Then he shut up, and F1ed anyway.:D

I'd only hire escorts if I knew there's going to be a danger on the way. Given the credit volumes received, I wouldn't have a big issue with paying 50% of the money if the escort actually contributed to breaking through a pirate blockade, with a happy ending. But 99% of the time I either fly all alone, or just dock and wait for the pirates to go away. Or fly a distance behind a cheeky ore hauler, and sneak past while the pirates are busy.

What I'm looking for at times is buying or selling ore for 50% of its top price. A 5000 cargo transport takes roughly as much time to load as to deliver.
<strike>10 %</strike> Zed mistake. 20%.

20 % of 50 million credits is 10 million credits. That is a nice number for an escort.

Edit: Zed also, sometimes hire miners and pay them with ships, hegeamons, spatials, etc. It's a good way to help new miners, ya know? "hey you, wanna a job?"

This is because the Hegemon is much more versatile since it has a good sized cargo bay. With a light miner, you can't make any money unless someone else is around to pay you to shoot rocks for them. If you decide to start shooting rocks to build up a stash of floating ore to sell once a buyer arrives, you are at a very high risk of being pirated. A Pirate Transport can come by, scoop up all your ore, fly away, and you can't do anything about it. With a Hegemon, the ore is safe inside your cargo bay and armor at least until a pirate decides they want to try and blow you up. So that's why I fly mainly Hegemons.

I've always thought that the Light Miners should get a comparatively higher mining bonus than the Hegemons so there would be some incentive to choose to fly one over a Hegemon.

That said, I would be in favor of, (and have in the past), hiring light miners to help mine ore for me. Both when I was just in a hauler transport and in a mining ship. The MD mining company does a great job at this. I'd also hire a good escort/ore field patroller if they are around. The early warnings from a scouting-escort is invaluable when hauling ore.

I have no idea what reasonable prices are for such services. Hopefully there will be more discussion in this thread on that.
