Hi !
I've found there is not a lot of "Role Play" on the server ...

That's why I've found a little idea to make the game more interesting :
I purpose every week-end , we increase the sell and the buy price of 2 commodities (only) in only 2 systems of Sirius.
The 2 system must will be very far.

That will allow :

- (Humans) Traders make a lot of profits

- (Humans) Pirates attack Traders to take their commodities

- (Humans) Fighters escort Traders for money

There must will have more action online.

How about that ?
I think this is a good idea, as one thing missing in freelancer is a 'dynamic economy' or changing prices. It will encourage pilots to visit more bases to get them on the 'neural net' and make different trade routes.

Maybe a water shortage in the border worlds, or a run on diamonds in New-Tokyo. Pilots would have to look to see where the new demand is and search.

I think this could be done server-side, I've never seen it done though. I think it would be cool, but Igiss would have to think carefully about which prices to raise. There's no point raising a price where the same commodity is sold at a base next-door. Maybe put them back to normal a week later and change other prices.

Good for Freelancer, bad for the traders.
the dynamically changing commodity prices would be an administrators nightmare to organize, but the weekend event mentioned is an excellent idea. Offering a "Mad Max" style 2-faction convoy event would be really fun and get people much more involved in the social aspect of the game. Deciding what commodities would be altered ahead of time and posting with a one week or so advance warning would help people plan time to get serverside and participate. only concern would be if the server could take the hit of 20 people suddenly logging in at the same time and trying to beat the stuffing out of eachother.....
If.... if it can be done serverside. You don't want to install new patches for each price change, right?
The idea was changing 2 commodities prices in only 2 planets/bases of Sirius...
We'll have to know where are the commodities before starting Freelancer !

The change will take place only each week-end , not during the week !
to profile: i'm not disputing the number of commodities changed or the time frame, just saying that the change should be announced a week or so ahead of time to let people plan.

to Igiss: Actually.... i don't think it could be done serverside only :-/ We would all have to go to our data folder and change our goods.ini for the selected commodities to the agreed upon value. The cheat sniffer compares these to the server's .ini files so you would have to have at least remote write access to the server's HDD to pull this off. Furthermore, anyone who either doesn't want to join or doesn't read the forums would get booted every 5 minutes for as long as the change is in effect. So it's an all or nothing event.

I'd start a poll to see how many people would actually want to do this, but i think i'll let you do that after you decide if it's even worth the hassle on your end to orchestrate the masses through it.
Start the poll, it won't take much work from my side... so that's up to players to decide.

I see TLR have just posted a commodity price randomizer, with a placement randomizer to come. It's a step in the right direction but not sure if it's worth the hassle of having the SDK and Java Runtime installed. I'm also guessing it doesn't support MP.
