Quote:Scouts are mostly for traders, not miners. Miners are stationary, traders move along a path. Scouting mercs fly ahead of the trader and warn the trader if there is a pirate on a tradelane ahead of them. Then the trader can take a different path, or the merc can distract the pilot while the trader passes through in the tradelane. Then the merc can leave the pirate and catch back up with the trader and scout ahead for it again. It works very well.

That's quite open ended. What are Miners to do with inadequate escorts? They cannot defend them in time for them to either get away (unlikely with Train CD's) or destroy the attacker. I know the topic aint about this, This is cause and effect. Crappy odds of getting away with an escort is less than or equal to doing it alone and saving money. That's why most people dont hire escorts.
' Wrote:Two, completely independent issues:
1. Do IDs exist in-RP?
2. There are pirates with freelancer IDs. Dozens of them. Despite the "Cannot pirate" in the ID description.

By the way. Just gave one freelancer a bit over 3 million for a 20 minute job. (Freelancer, if you seek an opportunity to work, then wait for Junker smuggling convoy!;))
About that idea. Is it it using Ptrans? Or Hegemon with good defensive loadout?

1 You can see them, but cannot read the instructions, cannon has said they are used like badges

2 iv never seen that, and just report im and he'll regret it

Ptrans: nope
Hege: Oh HELL no!

Its an escort method, not a different ship for the trader.

@ Camtheman;
The way for miners to use escorts, is again, as scouts, have them ks out from the mining field in the likely direction of pirate approach, ready to CD the pirate and warn the miner to flee before the pirate even picks them up on scanners

Meh.. Freelancer... Is sometime dangerous. as you never know.. exept if its with a known callsign .. VPS, SMP, ... that I know, and that I can trust.

Otherwise.. It seems the freelancer is used for too many things, while ii s perfecly fine, its also puzzling me. You can have a trader freelancer, a pirate freelancer, a bounty hunter freelancer, ''a miner'' freelancer. A god know what freelancer.... , and all at once if you want with the same character.

And the worst in their alignment, is that they often take the luxury to swich side at will, and use whatever thecnology they want, with permissions or not, they got the ultimate key to restricted goods.

... So I guess my whole point would be freelancer RP is not for me, more then its actually a problem.
