You surely gonna improve.
When I first started playing on the server, I didn't really know what to do, who to talk to. Well then I joined the Navy, because it was probably the easiest faction to get good rep with. Well Guard rep proved me wrong. Anyway, the best way to learn to roleplay is to join a faction, preferably an active one (looks at the Samura threads and activity page).

As for how to ask people to do missions with you, well just ask them if they want to shoot X faction to help you get better rep/ for the sake of shooting them/ to get some money/ whatever reason. But I don't think many people would accept, because missions are a pain in the arse, they take ages to do sometimes, they are not worth the money they give (try to do GRN missions against packs of heavy fighters in the GRN bomber, you'll see what I mean, especially when the reward is roughly 300k credits), and bribing is way faster.

Back on the roleplay guide, when you'll begin to talk to people, you're going to talk with almost anybody (exept silent miners/ power traders. And get out of Liberty or you'll start to talk ooRP and/or ooc. Quite a pain for people seeking roleplay (but beware ! Lolwuts are everywhere !)

PS: ugh, I hate long posts
theres no "roleplay guidelines" to be quite honest. if you're failing to find imaginative ways to capture other peoples attention, my best suggestion to you is to read more books. not comics or ****ty novels like twilight, read some -good- books which help you improve your vocabulary, introduce you to different ways of talking and communicating, learn new phrases, basically expand on the number of words you currently know.

i used to read lot of books as a kid, and it kind of sucks that i dont read half as many books as i used to, but i do try to keep up with stuff like e-books or the newspaper (i make it a note to read the newspaper everyday in the morning), but i digress. the point is, by reading, you get more experience, and it'll help you in the long run, not just roleplaying for freelancer.

also, be unique. something i strive to be all the time.
I find that the key to good RP is to, in a sense, become your character. Instead of thinking of yourself as a player controlling a character, think of yourself as your character. When I'm logged in on my SCRA, for example, I'm thinking in Major Robert Thacker's mindset, which is totally different from the mindset of Pope Tyler Jones of TAZ. They approach problems differently, and think differently about just about everything.

Were I thinking as the guy sitting in front of a keyboard pretending to be these imaginary characters, I doubt I'd be as convincing, nor would it me as much fun. Role Play, to me, means getting to put yourself aside and be someone else, if only for a little bit. For me, it's a fun approach, and certainly worth a try, assuming I'm making any sense.

EDIT: If I might make another suggestion, a good thing to do when you're looking for guidance is to join a good faction. There's quite a few good factions on the server that are very newbie friendly, and they'll teach you everything you need to know, provided you're willing to learn.
Try some Roleplay in the Edge worlds...people there are much more intrested in Roleplay...

Liberty However...you might find a good interactions but they mostly end with a PvP fight.
But hey if you are after PvP then why not...pvp is Roleplay too;)

Ye. The difficult, obtuse and constantly changing nature of the diplomacy out there is why. Its hard to figure out just who you can shoot on sight.
Cept for those dirty Outcasts/cannibal Corsairs.

Dude, AI ships destroy you! Don't make me prove it. (No I don't mean AI drone, I mean AI ID'd, and if he meant NPC's I apologize).
Well.

We met yesterday in Manchester I think.
During the 3 or 4 minutes the encounter lasted you said 2 lines.

If you want people to roleplay with you you have to roleplay with them.
Nobody will ask you to write a novel every time you run into a pirate, but hitting cruise again and again is not RP interaction.

And in rp, any pirate seeing five shires and four gunboats bearing down on him would scream

"Hey there mister tra SWEET JAESUS CONVOY ABORT ABORT ABORT ABORT!!!!"

Im not saying its a bad thing.

I approve of it.

Just saying, it's scary.

i lol'd... and then thought about bomberswarms

in the edge worlds, politics changes so fast we HAVE to roleplay to find out whose hit list we're on THIS week!

-or-

in the edge worlds, server politics roleplay YOU

That would be pretty funny, if it wasn't truth hah.
But at least there's some interesting RP to be made, stable states, groups and politics are boring.
' Wrote:I've pirated them many times, even when they have 2+ gunboats with Templars. They've paid every time and never shot me.

On topic: Roleplay isn't hard, you just have to get used to it and learn the mechanics of it, try joining an official faction as that will introduce you to roleplay the best way. There can't really be a guide because it's not something that can be taught, just do what your character would do.

well mate, that depends on our RP, i could say we only engage when it's a sure thing and we can be sure we won't loose a transport. If one of the transports gets shot, that would mean 100mil credits lost, plus several refugees or military stuff for bretonia. Think about it, that's why we pay sometimes, sometimes not...and that's why we try to improve our escort wing all the time *smiles*

Same thing as our "announcement" in every system...what do you say if you fly a camara or something and 4 shires crash right into your ass? would be fun, but not for you. And it wouln'd be the first time such a thing happens...that's why we always announce.
