The Lane Hackers
"Making the corporate weenies cry, so our kids can live in a free and just galaxy."

"The Lane Hackers are a criminal group with the technical expertise to monitor and disrupt Trade Lanes for the purpose of seizing valuable cargo. The powerful alliance between Lane Hackers, Liberty Rogues and Outcasts serves as the dominant unlawful force in Liberty space and most Independent Worlds."

Dossiers

The man who chose to be known to Sirius as Moriarty leaned back in his chair and smiled.

It's amazing that it is still so easy to hack into their most secure files.
The terminal in front of him began scrolling files across the screen. He selected the search function and made an entry. His own dossier appeared. With two keystrokes he erased his true name from the file and replaced it with his alias.

Even if and when they manage to fix this minor tweak, they will never figure out how it was done, or who did it. Perhaps their own paranoia will destroy a few of them to save us the trouble of doing it ourselves.

He began searching for the other dossiers belonging to his Lane Hackers, and making subtle changes to the files, changes that were largely inconsequential, but would doubtless still consume many man hours to discover, research, and correct, hours that couldn't be spent doing actual harm to The Lane Hackers. His hacks completed, he printed out the intelligence dossiers belonging to The Lane Hackers.

No doubt it will boost morale among the ranks for the Hackers to see just how inept Ageira Security Division is at tracking the backgrounds and activities of The Lane Hackers.

Moriarty

Alias: Moriarty
Affiliation: The Lane Hackers
Position: Faction Creator
Rank: Professor
Title: Senior Professor
Specialization: Influence
Status: Inactive
Background: Ageira Technologies
Height: 170 cm
Hair: Black, greying
Eyes: Brown
Age: 68, born 763 A.S.

Personal Background

He is a man of good birth and excellent education, endowed by nature with a phenomenal mathematical faculty. At the age of twenty-one he wrote A Treatise on the Binomial Theorem, which has had a certain vogue among the elites in the field of mathematics. On the strength of it he won the mathematical chair at Manhattan University, and had, to all appearances, a most brilliant career before him.

The subject has written the book The Dynamics of an Asteroid, which his colleagues have described as "a book which ascends to such rarefied heights of pure mathematics that it is said that there was no man in the scientific press capable of criticising it".

But the man had hereditary tendencies of the most diabolical kind. A criminal strain ran in his blood, which, instead of being modified, was increased and rendered infinitely more dangerous by his extraordinary mental powers. Dark rumours gathered round him in the University community, and eventually he was compelled to resign his chair and make his living elsewhere. Indications are that the subject was using University contracts with Ageira Technologies to infiltrate Ageira operations and hack into classified Ageira R&D projects. Numerous "backdoors", "trapdoors", "worms" and other programming irregularities found in Manhattan University's computer network are suspected of being the subject's work.

After his removal from Manhattan University, the subject disappeared from public view and severed contact with the professional scientific community.

Known Crimes

Multiple hacks into Ageira Security databases. Leadership of The Lane Hackers.

Underground Activity

Recent intelligence intercepts indicate that he has risen to a command position among The Lane Hacker criminal organization, leveraging his technical superlatives to persuade the Hackers to accede to his leadership.

Threat Assessment

• The subject is considered as low level threat in terms of personal potential to physically damage Ageira Technologies properties and personnel.
• The subject is considered as extreme level threat in terms of potential damage to Ageira Technologies security protocols and Neural-net assets.
• The subject is considered as medium level threat in terms of potential public relations damage to Ageira Technologies image and its subsidiaries.

Disposition

All security agents are instructed to capture at all costs the subject after eliminating all its electronic warfare systems in order to avoid a hostile takeover. If captured the target is to be secured in the nearest facility where it will await transfer to the headquarters for further processing. No preliminary interrogation of the subject is allowed.

Age: 44, born 787 A.S.

Personal Background

The subject has a mechanical background that began with land based vehicles and expanded to air and space craft. The subject was employed in the Fleet Maintenance Division, Escort Fighter Maintenance Wing of Ageira Technologies.

The absorption of a Fleet Maintenance company into Ageira Technologies made the continued employment of the subject superfluous, and his contract was terminated. The subject used his extensive knowledge of Ageira operations to steal an escort Starflier and trade it to The Lane Hackers in exchange for asylum.

Known Crimes

Robbery, aggravated assault, destruction of Ageira property, wearing the same socks three days in a row and then stuffing them in the faces of sleeping Ageira employees on his weekly covert trips to Manhattan. Slander, burning company issued clothing including underwear, and being an all around nuisance.

Svengali

Alias: Svengali
Affiliation: The Lane Hackers
Rank: Hacker
Status: Inactive
Background: Ageira Technologies
Height: unknown
Hair: unknown
Eyes: unknown
Age: unknown

Personal Background

There is no data available regarding the subject's history prior to his first breach of Ageira Security. It is unknown whether the security breaches ascribed to the subject are the work of a single individual or numerous individuals attempting to cloak their activities under a single "pseudonym". All that is known about the subject is inferred from a psychological profile constructed by Liberty Security Force based on the hacks performed by the subject.

The subject possesses an intelligence quotient that is at a minimum 4 standard deviations above the mean, placing the subject in the top 0.01% of the population. The subject displays a superior attitude that would normally be classified as narcissistic personality disorder, but that in his case may simply be a recognition of the extraordinary gap between his intellectual abilities and those of the population at large.

The subject displays a tremendous tendency towards a mischievous or devious display of humor in his otherwise criminal activities, indicating that he may perceive his actions as having little to no moral implications and instead are merely mental challenges attempted for his own bemusement. Nevertheless, the seriousness of the security breaches committed by the subject demonstrates that the subject's activities pose a grave threat to any level of security in Liberty that the subject chooses to attack.

The subject has flawlessly performed numerous hacks into Liberty based security networks that were traceable only to anonymous network terminals. The degree of complexity combined with the total lack or error in those hacks indicates that the subject may be a compulsive perfectionist who exercises in depth planning and organization prior to "making his move".

To date, 27 separate hacking incidents are attributed to Svengali due to the discovery of his name embedded in code related to the hack, or the name being directly used as part of the hack.

Exploitable Weaknesses: the subject's superior qualities has likely resulted in him being confronted with little to no failure or risk to his person during the course of his life. It is possible that if he is maneuvered into a physically high risk circumstance the subject may be susceptible to mistakes brought on by an unfamiliar panic state.

Known Crimes

Multiple hacks into Ageira security networks. Malicious and destructive distortions to Ageira personnel files, financial records, and executive letterhead. Re-routing of Ageira supply ships to miscellaneous destinations. Insinuation of insulting and slanderous material into Ageira communications networks. Using Ageira communications channels and literature to dispense criminal propaganda.

Background: Ageira Technologies
Height: 180 cm
Hair: blonde
Eyes: blue
Age: 46, born 785 A.S.

Personal Background

A three year employee at Ageira, the subject's final assignment was to the Optronics Research Team for the Havoc MKII Bomber. After hacking into the security algorithms installed into the Havoc's computer systems, the subject threatened to publicly release the bomber's sensitive security coding to the public domain unless Ageira secured the release of several of the subject's friends who had been convicted of corporate espionage while employed at Ageira.

The subject barely eluded the security team that was dispatched to apprehend him. Intelligence sources indicate that the subject secured passage to Buffalo Base in the New York system and received admittance to the Liberty Rogues' base after hacking into the Rogues' personnel files and changing his dossier.

The subject obtained a Dagger light fighter and traveled to Freeport 4 in Magellan, where he made contact with operatives for The Lane Hackers. Intelligence Branch suspects that the subject traded his knowledge of current Ageira security and programming protocols to obtain admittance into the ranks of The Lane Hackers. The subject's only known relatives are his parents, who reside somewhere on Planet New Berlin, and are outside the easy reach of the Intelligence Branch.

The subject was not a skilled pilot prior to his espionage, however records indicate that he received numerous sessions in the Havoc Bomber flight simulator that were inconsistent with his role in the Optronics Research Team. When interviewed, simulator maintenance crews indicated that the subject always carried a flight sickness bag into the simulator and disposed of it afterwards. This indicates that the subject may be a very unstable pilot, and not a serious threat in combat. However, records of his sessions show that he demonstrated superior handling of his ships and rated very highly in combat fire avoidance.

Known Crimes

Theft of classified design specifications. Consorting with criminals.

Threat Assessment

• The subject is considered as low level threat in terms of personal potential to physically damage Ageira Technologies properties and personnel.
• The subject is considered as high level threat in terms of potential damage to Ageira Technologies security protocols and Neural-net assets.
• The subject is considered as medium level threat in terms of potential public relations damage to Ageira Technologies image and its subsidiaries.

Background: Ageira Technologies
Height: 140 cm
Hair: brown
Eyes: brown
Age: 38, born 793 A.S.

Personal Background

The subject possesses a Masters Degree from the Los Angeles Institute of Technology. He is the son of a known Hacker in the Magellan group.

The subject used the knowledge and skills gained at L.A.I.T. to hack into the Ageira Technologies networks at Detroit Munitions via an uplink through his Dagger that he stationed just outside the station's refuse shunt. The physical hack was done via the refuse control console that had apparently never been hardened against intrusion. The subject then spammed all IC and Ageira's Department Heads' electronic inboxes with the scans and schematics for Detroit, along with his brand new shiny Dagger parked next to it.

Rumors say, that the Ageira's CEO, after seeing the insane smile of the Dagger's pilot, waited for three days with the official statement for the press because he was so humiliated by this information leak.

Known Crimes

Subject is no longer just a little nuisance, the bounty on him is rising as fast as his ever-growing criminal record. Over two dozen transport vessels have been hijacked, destroyed, or looted by the subject.

Threat Assessment

• The subject is considered as high level threat in terms of personal potential to physically damage Ageira Technologies properties and personnel.
• The subject is considered as medium level threat in terms of potential damage to Ageira Technologies security protocols and Neural-net assets.
• The subject is considered as medium level threat in terms of potential public relations damage to Ageira Technologies image and its subsidiaries.

Disposition

All security agents are instructed to capture or terminate the subject through the usage of overwhelming force under the assumption that it is well armed and extremely dangerous. If captured the target is to be transferred to the nearest facility to be interrogated.

Le Chiffre

Alias: Le Chiffre
Affiliation: The Lane Hackers
Rank: Professor
Title: Executive Professor
Status: Inactive
Background: Ageira Technologies
Height: 185 cm
Hair: black
Eyes: black
Age: 47, born 784 A.S.

Personal Background

The subject is the only child of a family so wealthy as to be virtually aristocratic. Although the subject was brought up on Planet Manhattan surrounded by money and luxury, his parents were not really interested in rising their child, being more occupied wealth and social status. He left home as soon as he was able and was soon hired by Ageira Technologies and Interspace Commerce.

The subject's employment provided him access to what he loves the most: money. He rose to the top of the company quickly by working hard and diligently, and unscrupulously eliminating rivals along the way. At Ageira he was called by the nickname Paranoid Android. The subject's work focused on money transfers, banking management, and financial security. Also, as a skilled programmer, he worked on financial database security for numerous Liberty corporations.

At a conference, without notifying his superiors, the subject presented a proposal to overhaul corporate security at various Liberty corporations by actually demonstrating the ease with which their databases were hacked, and in doing so humiliated several high profile Liberty firms in the public media. The subject's employment was terminated for this infraction of corporate protocol. Intelligence Branch has confirmed that his superiors framed him for embezzling millions from various companies as a cover for his firing. In retaliation, he hacked into Ageira and Interspace bank accounts and stole 10 million credits without being spotted by security systems.

A few days later he somehow obtained access to one of the police vessels on Planet Manhattan, stole it, and escaped from the New York system to a Lane Hacker enclave.

Known Crimes

Hacked into Ageira Technologies and Interspace Commerce bank accounts several times. Countless number of viruses, trojans and bugs uploaded into Ageira Technologies and Interspace Commerce systems. While trying to avoid pursuit of Libery Police he shot down eight police fighters.

Hair: blonde, black, red, black
Eyes: blue, black, green, brown
Age: unknown

Personal Background

The group of women who are the self-proclaimed Lane Witches consist of three sisters who use the mythological aliases Galadriel, Morgan le Fay, and Circe, and the daughter of the middle sister, Morgan le Fey, who uses the alias Medea.

The three sisters are separated from each other in age by merely a year each and were child prodigies in the fields of music and it's scientific corollary, mathematics. Reportedly, the three girls had mastered both performance level musical abilities and advanced calculus by the age of ten. Their father was a theoretical physicist and their mother was a concert musician who also possessed an advanced degree in mathematics.

When the oldest girl, Galadriel, was thirteen, the three sisters were enrolled at the Manhattan Institute of Technology and the Sciences, but failed to complete their first semester of coursework due to a refusal to attend their courses, which they reportedly described as "childish". Apparently, their father who was a dean at the Institute applied pressure to the academic committees, who conducted a week long "examination" of the girls' knowledge and abilities, and that concluded that they had already advanced beyond the Institute's ability to teach them. After two further years of work on the Institute's most advanced research teams, the girls were awarded Doctorates at the ages of 15,14, and 13.

Ageira Technologies finally managed to secure the young women for work in its Theoretical Applications Division within six months of their "graduation". The women continually baffled the other members of the Division by discussing theories and applications that other members of the Division believed to be fantasy rather than theoretical space-time applications. Rumors abounded that the women were more interested in researching the so-called "occult" applications of science and technology than in developing more advanced trade lanes and jump gates. Numerous reviews from their department heads found references in their work to concepts more related to "fantasy" and "magic" than theoretical physics. The women always maintained that they were being persecuted for their superior abilities out of jealousy and envy.

After three years of employment, Ageira Technologies terminated the women's contracts and reported them to the Liberty Security Force for allegations of security breaches, system's tampering, and theft of intellectual property.

The women disappeared before they could be arrested and are suspected of having stolen large portions of classified raw programming code from Ageira's most secure database. A computer virus of unknown origin attacked Ageira's security logs one day after their departure from the company, making it impossible to fully reconstruct their infiltrations into Ageira's systems.

The women are reported to have fled to the sanctuary of The Lane Hackers, due to numerous contacts with prior employees who have joined their ranks.

In the ensuing years since their departure from the company, rumors have circulated that the middle sister, Morgan le Fay, was seduced by a top ranking executive of Ageira. The rumors posit that their termination was a cover-up for the young woman's ensuing pregnancy. Reports of a fourth, much younger woman called Medea accompanying the sisters in the intervening years provides support for this rumor. Other rumors reverse the seduction and claim that the woman seduced the executive in order to gain access to high level security access codes, which the sisters exploited for The Lane Hackers.

Since their escape to The Lane Hackers, the reports of their activities have grown more and more fantastic, with nearly all recent reports detailing their use of "magic" and other "occult" practices in their attacks and infiltrations into Ageira operations.

Their most public action was a hack into the Ageira Technologies Procurement Division HQ building on Planet Manhattan two years ago. They remotely gained access to the physical plant controls and reprogrammed the interior lighting of the building to cause the building to appear to spell out "The Lane Witches" when viewed from a distance. The extensive damage to the physical plant programming code required the actual replacement of the computer hardware to restore the system. They have been collectively known as "The Lane Witches" in the public press ever since.

Known Crimes

The women specialize in acts that may be termed "terroristic" without necessarily causing physical damage. They engage in pranks, taunts, and repeated security breaches of Ageira, LSF, and LPI forces and organizations.

Alias: Hugo Drax
Affiliation: The Lane Hackers
Rank: Specialist
Status: Inactive
Background: Ageira Technologies
Height: 170 cm
Hair: brown
Eyes: brown
Age: 55, born 776 A.S.

Personal Background

The subject was a worker at Ageira Technologies for six years. He worked as a security consultant at first, moving up to a security analyst in his later years. His job required extensive logical and mathematical skills. Coworkers of the subject maintained he was a great worker, adept at protecting many of Ageira's and other corporation's assets.

According to electronic diaries seized from his home on Planet Manhattan, he had supposedly found holes deliberately placed in certain security protocols. These breaches could compromise the security and allow attacks on the unprotected assets. The subject perceived this as insurance fraud.

After hearing this plot the subject became paranoid and elected to flee from Planet Denver where he was currently assigned. By hacking several neural nets, he was able to buy a Starflier-class ship to escape to the Lane Hackers. The subject avoided capture by Ageira Security and the LPI. He is believed to be hiding out in the Magellan System.

Known Crimes

Multiple hacks into Ageira Security databases. Multiple hacks into the LSF and Liberty Navy comms channels. Multiple hacks of personal and business neural nets for personal gain. Two counts of possession of contraband software.
