I am going to be sharing my experiences with two of my charaters; ( Do note, these are just the details of my charaters, so you can understand when I refer to them later on)
- Venge (Simon Halls)
- Venge was my very first 'main charater'. His past was forgotten, and only remember waking up as a Lane Hacker. Like both of my charaters his RP was only formed whilst RPing with other players. The actual call sign of the 'player name' was 'I.Shall.Have.Revenge' it was only when he started talking when I gave him a proper name. Venge, from RE-venge was then his call-sign. Why ? Because it was his RP that he had forgotten his name, but the Lane hackers called him Venge. Keep in-mind, the name change was a OORP decission, whilst the reason for it was RP.
Through out my RP with him, I developed a 'special RP power' if you want to call it that. He had visions whilst he slept, I was unsure if this type of RP was going to work, as not many players would want to RP with the charater. In one of his visions he saw a man, who he later found out was 'Steve Holloway' a charater played by Ryummel.
Through out this quest to find his background, Venge met alot of people, Zoey Sakura, David Hale, Steve Holloway, Alexis Glover, and many more. Though I got bored of his RP, and decided he was to join a slave liner crew under the name of 'The.Lost.And.Damned'. The ship, and it's charaters was my own RP. I created the crew and thier personalities, as well as the hostory of the slave liner. The present day, Venge found his real name to be 'Simon Halls' and kept using Venge as a code name.
- Emily Anderson
Emily Anderson was a charater which I only created to be in the escort department of a trading faction ( [*USI*] ). Though she left USI, and then joined the =LSF= ( A Lawful Liberty faction) to help Liberty alot more. Emily is still a active charater, and her RP 'twist' is coming into play now. Unlike Simon / Venge, she had a normal life, she was born on Trenton Outpost ( USI Base ) and was trained by her father and her fathers friend son to fly a fighter vessel, this was before she joined the LSF. The first RP event I did with Emily was when her friend 'Henry Noxville' ( the charater which helped her learn to fly) was killed during a mission for the Mandalore. He was part of the Mercenary faction Mandalore Mercenry's ( MM~ ). Recently Emily has caught up with Simon ( Venge ). I linked thoughs charaters together through another charater, ( my very first actually ) Emily was in trouble and my first charater kept her safe, and the 'safe house' happened to be on the Slave liner which Simon now owned.
So, where do I start with RP?
Before you want to expand your mind into the big strange world of RP, you want to get your basics right such as;
- What gender is your charater going to be ?
- What is his / her name ?
- How is your charater going to act ?
- Is he / she going to have a family ? ( Mother, father, brother, son, daughter etc. )
- What is her / his age ?
When it comes to gender, I would surgest you RP as your gender. ( If your a male you RP a male, if your a female you RP a female) This way you already feel what your charater is feeling. Making a charater of the opposite gender is something I found rarther challenging, but reading / RP with female charaters can help you get a better view of how a female can be RP'd.
For example, for a male charater I would use *chuckles*, whilst for a female I would go *giggles*.
What is his / her name ?
This is pretty self explanitory, however when creating your charater you want to keep your charaters name linked into where they we're born. For example, for a Kusari based name you would use something like Hukai, or Youji. Google is a good source for finding websites with American, British, Japanese / Chinese, German etc. names.
How is your charater going to act?
So, what type of person are they going to be ? 2 faced ? Honest ? Kind ? Full of Anger ? Depressed ? Emotional ? Loving ? Careless ? Flirty ? Rude ? Etc.
Keep in mind, you can always have different actions for differant people. Let's say you have a male pirate char, and he's flirting with a Rogue girl.. suddenly the navy come ! They aren't going to act the same when his chat up lines are interupted by force, or are they ? It's up to you.
Is your charater going to have family ?
Normually, I just stick to having 1 mother, 1 father, and maybe 1-2 sisters / brothers. Though having a husband / wife is something I RP with another player. But again, it's all up to you.
What age if your charater ?
Age is something you really need to think about it, if you start using pictures for comm channels, you will need someone who will look the age your charater is. You really want to avoid a 21 male with grey hair which looks 70.. If your thinking about using a picture as your charater, ask another player either in the forums or on Skype if they think the picture looks whatever age your charater is.
