Imagine miner ship large as battleship, with cargo capacity of 7000 units. With about 15 turrets and hull strength of maybe 150 000. Imagine that it is so big that it barely can dock with trade lanes. Imagine price for it about 300 mill.

Sounds good so far doesn't it?

Now imagine that ship without engine. It would have only one thruster.

In RP way i imagined this ship for large factions who get kick of nice RP. Under heavy escort this ship should be placed inside one of good mining fields and there one player should mine. Other two of three traders should carry stuff he loots to selling point...

In case that player is alone large cargo bay comes handy. 15 turrets make mining somewhat easier and maybe faster. Also they come in good in case of defense...(ship cant move remember)..It would be more like player controlled installation

Now i know that this ship would be rarely used and maybe it doesn't have any practical meaning but that is just idea i had.


And, also...ship has no engines so it large cargo hold wont be abused by traders....or of it does...it will be hell of a trip thrusting trough Sirius with maybe 40 speed...

I don't know...just and idea...

EDIT: oh yes i forgot..no engines no auto pilot ...
i do like the idea - 7000 cargo units is good - cause it cannot be abused for TRADING - but can be USED for mining operations. ( even 10.000 units cargo aint a problem - think of it - its twice as much as an adv. train, but it can t even do half the route in the same time -- provided its too big for lanes at all )

but there is a roleplay problem with such a large size - aren t those ships supposed to operate in asteroid fields? - it would be a pain to get something of this shape into an asteroid field.

it would make for a very valuable ship that has to be protected though - especially when those ships are probing outer systems.

now i wish there were "unclaimed" but rich mineral places to mine - so the IMG and GMG had reason to explore actually - might aswell be places in hostile space - like omicrons with nomads ( in the takalau nebula, the chance to spawn a nomad patrol is 10 times greater than in open space - but all you mine there is water:angry:)

yeah...but also current Miner isn't so small ship...
Take away its ability to dock on trade lanes and then may be....
It has to be painfully slow....top thruster speed 80. No Cruise.

So yeah it will be a money maker, but enemies can attack and destroy it.
It will have to work like a platform so allied ships can probably trade goods and stuff from it...

Wait...can it be made like a space station ? Slow moving behemoth that works like a trading post ???
In that case drop the thruster speed to 15. and give it BS guns and more armor than a BS.

A real trading post (with guns shields goods to sell and buy......

well, i hear a sarcastic tone there:). there is a difference from pilotable stations and a plausible miner. dooms idea isn t bad - piloting a station is - silly. ( even if they share certain characteristics )

a miner should be as fast as any other ship .. which is 90. thrusters don t really fit well. no capship guns! - only transport guns or fighter turrets. but yes - a low agility so that it must be used in turret mode for self defending. its a civilian vessel - and most of its size is not a reactor, but a cargohold / mining equipment - so i d say - 100.000 shields maximum. but i might see it having 4500 bats / bots ( like the repair ship, cause its supposed to be a heavy tools platform )

your idea - pipsquek isn t bad - but its not for pilting that stuff - but to provide a flexible universe - its rather system modding. if the IMG claimed a rich field, the system modders might place a miner there ( like tau-31 )
I like the concept, but as im a trade-whore i would love to see cruise-engines on it, and a total size big enough so it doesnt even FIT inside a tradelane... but i want cruise!!!

I think we will not make it a "dockable station/ship" you can use the trade-function to get 5000 units of anything mineable to the ship transporting it.

I would buy it (if it gets cruise) for any price, it simply is fun to fly something that big and make money with it... and its not that bad, if you are with 2 escorts and all 3 are mining you get that 10k hold full quicker then a trade run. 10.000x230(niobiumprice on falkland) thats 2.3 mil for a full hold.. now you sell it at the best buyer for 2100 a pop and you make 21 million a turn. sure you have to fly forever to get there but still:)GIMME CRUISE!!!

also i dont think admins would have the time to beam that ship anywhere for everyone.. it has moving capabilities... so start moving xD

Hardly.....you are missing one of the greatest ideas "I" have come up with...lol okay okay...

But think about it.

With 10 or 15 thrust, it can "Drift". Remember, space stations have to drift to maintain their orbit sometimes. You will not dock but you definately can do whatevey you can with other stations "trade wise". We can also use it to give out bounties aka "Missions". Admins can move these stations to new systems. They are huge ships with no propellers. They can sit in a mining field, tractor in goods and traders can come by and buy the goods. they can hold codes and stuff so people can come by to by these goods off of em. I am sure OC would like a trader like that in Tau37. It needs to be mor epowerful than a battleship as it will give up mobility. and yes it can be destroyed. IT

I imagine pirates raiding it with their own convoy of feighters. so they acn destroy and tractor the loot. It needs to be more powerful to defend itself. Frieghter goods on it will just make it a easier sitting duck.

I'd say give it 15k cargo cap so it can potentially fill 3 trains. and 18 BS class guns and a power plant that doesnt drain easily.
Disabling cruise is easy, give recharge time of 3600 seconds...lol

@ Doom: look what happens when asking for suggestions. They have hijacked your project. Wonder when the next comes with 20.000 holdsize to fill up 4 Trains.
What you have posted is good and i can see a good rp reason for, a reason only a very few cares.
The problem i see, when logging off or the server reboots. If this fat baby is in space you may lose equipment and cargo.
