When i load the sever list freelancer is displaying it as a red ver number and its only showing 3 servers
and the update wont start, i download the Discovery485.zip.flmod and i got it from:

is this the right one?

and it works, but you should install FLMM first, you can download it Here

after the installation discovery will download some update, and then you're ready to play, but remember only activate discovery mod, you can delete other

I just had this problem. All you have to do is de-activate freelancer discovery, then re-activate it, then launch it. After it loads, it should close and ask you if you want to update. Click ok, then it should work.
If that doesn't work, go to
C:\Program Files\Freelancer Mod Manager\mods\2009-06-09-Discovery485\EXE
And press DSUpdate. That should fix everything.

That's the one that keeps on cutting out on me it only downloads 2% then stops, is there any other download locations of the the same ver as that one?

and is there a torrent i can use to download it?

To the best of my knowledge, all of these links work, the torrent for sure, because Utorrent tried to start it when I clicked it ;)
