I just tried out BSG mod, i know...the admin and mod team don't want to see stuff from other mods but this looked a good idea. So if you want to do a jump you need some coordinates first right? Basicly in BSG mod ther was a command /coords and when you targeted something and used this command the coordinates showed up then you got some coords where to jump tiped /FTL (coords here with some changes to avoid jumping in the middle of the base/planet) and there you go. So if we get the FTL drive it can work maybe on a similar way...you send out a scout and that guy use the /coords command then he sends them to you and you're ready to jump. There can be 2 tipes of /coodrs command one for other objects like /coordtarget and one for self /coordself so the guy can send hes own coords to the ship to avoid detection. Then the guy in the big ship tipe /jump (system name here) (x,y,z coords here) and there we are.
Just to make things a bit more funny: If a ship jump in to a middle of a asteroid it'll instablow so the scout must be good to make sure his backup wont jump in to a middle of a asteroid. There can be some empty areas in asteroid fields which can be used for as a jump points for bigger ships. This can be combined with with another intersting idea what was brought up a few times here now: make the chatlog not show the system where the player actually is...or maybe allow only the names to be seen in the chatlog. So if someone wants to set up a trap for exaple, then he just bribes the scout to go in to the location where he want his pray. The chatlog can't be used to see if our scout is not in the system we want so no OORP advantage can be gained from there.
