So since Templar was the last brick I haven't tested... I went to try... and the verdict is

Quite good ship

Nowhere near as bad as the numbers would suggest.

- It dodges much better than the Titan and it's also much smaller (narrower).. so you don't eat mines/missiles like in Titan. I would actually say it dodges even better than the Raven Claw.. but Raven Claw has really small hitbox (but you loose shields quite often)

- turns a bit slow yes.. (nowhere near the normal Talon though)

- the gun slots are close so aiming is nice (much better than on a Sabre)

- with 700m/s Adv. Splitters it hits other ships easily (when it turns to them)

- has smaller power supply(Wrath one) than both Titan and Werewolf, which it should have otherwise it would be vastly superior to both.

Conclusion:

Should have no problems with Titan/Werewolf. (main enemies)
Templar vs Chimaera 1vs1 is much easier than Titan vs Sabre (which is still not so big problem).
Evenly matched with Avenger.

In bigger battles it's "safer" to be in than the Titan. (because it doesn't have those wings).

So it does not need a boost..... but Bretonians could use an additional HF.

i think the templar is a good ship. - its a pity that agility weighs a lot more than armor in a combat - so it won t go well against a blood dragon or other fairly unbalanced ships. - in a whole, it fits well into the idea of bretonia and the "balanced" ships.

furthermore, the bretonians have the hussar, - which .. after my last fight against it - appears to turn much faster than even the griffin. - so it makes up for it, - maybe.

i don t think it needs a boast, - but then, i don t think any ship needs a boast. - if a ship is worse than its competitors, its down to RP, - and i d rather have ships that are worse - than having ships that are "balanced". in the end, one has the free choice which faction to play. - its not like one MUST start in a faction with bad ships to raise into a faction with good ones.

ships with weaknesses are often more interesting than optimal ships.

edit: the NPC templars ( escorts of the raid groups ) are perfectly balanced, imo. they are tough - more dangerous than the battleships ( which are waaay too weak ) - wish other houses had similar escort ships with the "valuable" npc groups.

It should never ever meet a BD in fight... why should it?

I was comparing it to ships it can meet.

Also "agility" is ability to change direction fast.. and strafe.. it has a very good "agility".

Turning rate is slow.

Ask UOG or KNF or AFA how I do in mine...

Isaac has done very well in the Templar. As well or better than Dieter has in the Wrath.

It is a seriously unappreciated ship.

I can dodge in it quite well thank you.
In a battle of any real size involving Chimaeras, it is easily swarmed, to be honest, but apart from that, it isn't too bad. No ship is perfect.

Except the Hussar.

It rawks.
Well, that's pretty much the same with Titans/Sabres.

Though Templar is much closer to Chimaera in agility - then Titan to Sabre.

I also like the looks of it. And same as Titan - it has a soul!
I love those 'weak' ships.
Its a monster...I do enjoy flying it, and one on one, I've raped chimeras, from training against MKs in BD...I would argue that it needs more armour, and here's my justification for that:
Speed tanks and armour tanks are not equally balanced, because the benefits transferred by a proportional increase in armour do not nearly meet those given by the conventionally equal increase in speed. That is, from the baseline, each additional unit of speed should cost more units of armour than the last, because they do not transfer equally, and as thus, form a Production Possibilities Curve. The real beauty of this argument is that instead of creating equity through making all ships equal, it creates equity through making ships even more different.
My proposal, for armour increases, is:
Titan 4.5k
Templar 2.5k
Avenger 1.7k

These numbers are not excessive or insane, when one considers how much less a speed tank gets hit, they're downright conservative.
ehm.. true... but those numbers are a bit off if you think they get multiplied by 2.5

Avenger doesn't really need anything I'd say...

Templar 1.5-2k

Titan 3k max.
Well, I mostly see those from the ahem... other side

But anyway, they are hard to hit and hard to damage. One way of wrecking them quickly are missles, cuz 6 guns on a viper won't be too quick.
Crusader/Templar have only one disadvantage. There is no ocean in space, where to swimm:laugh:

The Templar is a good and equal opponent to Chimaera. The main enemy to face.

Respectful
