Hello. I'm actually already familiar with Freelancer, having played the hell out of it a few years ago (and now doing it again, only this time with this awesome mod). However, not only am I new to Discovery but I'm actually a total newbie to online Freelancer in general (I didn't, or actually couldn't, play with that feature back then). This sounds silly, but I'd like some answers to what happens when I press that Multiplayer button for the first time ever. How do I connect (and just in case, can it use a proxy?), how does character creation work, where do I start and what with, what happens when I get blown up, how do I chat, and other such silly basic stuff. Once I know that, perhaps then I can start discovering properly (RP, rules, ID's, factions... where to start?).....

On another note, I told myself I wouldn't go online until I finish the story again. But after a couple of days of nonstop Freelancing, I've hit a snag. I went mad taking out an entire Rheinland fleet (gunboats, cruisers, and a battleship), but I pulled it off eventually (without torpedoes, no less!). However, it'll take a miracle to get me out of this jam: a Nomad fleet with gunboats ahoy, and I have to destroy them all! Yeah right, not when the gunboats blow up my ship in one shot or so. I guess even if I had bought that $300k Anubis (odd, I thought that was free or low-price), it'd still be the same. As it is, my poor Barracuda stands no chance. Can't I just run to Toledo right away?

So I guess I could be going online sooner than later. Not when the story has become so... tough. Let's see... Outcasts being so tough early on, a Liberty battleship dock-killing me upon leaving Manhattan, the aforementioned Rheinland fleet, being expected to take out several Nomad gunboats... yeah, madness, Sparta, etc.
Welcome - have fun playing:)
'Eyo.

Here's a good collection of stuff you should know for going online, the factions, Id's etc.

Dear Rookie Thread
Faction Thread (Pertinant info on each within the links.)
New to Discovery Thread

All of these where an immense help to myself, and I hope that they can help you. As for your campaign troubles, alas, I can be of little.

Hope to see you up in my sky!
Welcome to Discovery!

It is true, the Single Player part has become much more difficult - but in return, the online part is the best you can find! Especially the great Roleplay and the wonderful community 'round here'll make your stay pretty comfy.

Beware though, as you are new, some wise fellows (*looks out for Del*) will try to recruit you for their goals (a.k.a. factions). Might be worth a thought though;)

So, fasten your seatbelt, avoid the cows, don't eat the kittens and have fun on your search for the Holy Hot Dogs!
Good flying out there:)

PS: Major kudos to Sanguine for being a great "new guy"!

Edit: Geez, and there I go, forgetting spellcheck. All fixed now I hope.
Welcome to Discovery, take the time to get familiar with the hundreds of rules and enjoy yourself.
*hears name being manetioned*

Oh me! me! Yeah I'd give you my usual spiel but somebody has been here and given you all the links you'll need. The only other's worth having, at least that you'll get here, are all the story links in Zapp's sig and the recruitment links in my sig. The DPL being the most worthy of them all.

Have fun, whatever you choose to do.
I think I have an idea on what to start with. I just first need to know what the difference is between Liberty's three authority factions (Police, Security, Navy)...

...please?

LPI, cops, in the stereotypical AMerican sense, Donut munching Coffee swilling folks who would rather run than fight, but they will fight if needs must

LSF, Security, currently going through abit of a revamp regarding their duties.

SA, Navy, the big guns. Fight the good fight agaisnt the various nasties out there.
Ehe' Ill try to sum it up as I understand it. Please note that I have not been here all that long.

The Security force is just that, Ive seen them working pretty much defensivly, and I rarely see them leave the system unless its important. They tend to help escort etc.

The Navy is the all around we do everything guys. Ive seen them outside of the system but its sorta rare.

The Police are just that, mostly checking cargo, making sure you arn't shooting randomly, or ramming anyone. They tend to keep order.

Then again, all these roles are interchangeable due to the over abundance of.....new people in the new york system.:P

Also, you didn't mention the SA they work primarily in Texas and Colorado, but Ive seen them in New York with the regular Police. My advice is get on, and talk with all three. They are all glad to help!
