After reading some sanction titles and then reading up on the most recent 3 pages of sanction notices (see quotes and links above), I would like to raise the following question:
Should admins/moderators be allowed to insult sanctioned players?
Personnally, I think they shouldn't, no matter what the players are getting sanctioned for.
To me the way some admins and mods (not all of them, many of them are actually very polite and "professional" in sanction notification threads) are behaving in those threads has the character of this situation:
The taller, stronger, more popuplar kid in class (maybe class president?), well... "kicks in the balls" (quote) in fornt of the class a defenseless kid who has been exposed to have done something that everyone agrees is wrong and who will get sanctioned for it. The kick in the balls serves no other purpose than to express contempt, dominance, and to gain popularity by humiliating him further and portraying himself as the righteous punisher.
I want to repeat that not all admins do this, nor do they generally adopt a rude and condescending tone. But some notices, or other interventions, appear like a welcome opportunity for certain people to insult players and grind them into the dirt, to show them and everyone who is "the better person".
A sanction notice should show the sanctioned player what he has done wrong and why it is not acceptable, if necessary punish him as an incentive to not do it again, and it should also show other players that admins are upholding rules fairly.
They should not, how ever, be a stage for admins/mods to vent their anger, insult, and willfully humiliate people. Nor should the admin position be the equivalent of a "I get to insult people" card.
