I have been trying to run a Battlefield 1942 server on my second computer.

I am getting really bad pings to the server, and randomly disconnecting from it. yet the packets are all still there.

here are the screens:

[attachmentid=4935]

[attachmentid=4936]

Very confusing

I shouldn't get disconnected from my own server at all. my ping spikes to 110 in game, but I think thats short for 1000+

I can play for 5 minutes some times, or when I try to connect it just disconnects me instantly.

Any help would be fantastic!

Cheers:cool:
Bump!

And what is the address to ping my own network card? Isn't there a universal IP that your networking card uses?

I need to see if there is an issue with it.
127.0.0.1 should be yourself.

I could be an issue with background tasks, ports, firewalling, router, CPU, network card, lan cable, etc.

The fact that it still has to go to your ISP and then back to the other computer (if its a different IP address/account) would still result in a ping, while it should be resonably low. If you are connecting both computers to a router and doing it like that, then you are having port problems. Open DMZ in the router and see what happens. From there you'd have to assign Port forwards to BF's client on BOTH machines IPs if you had no problems while DMZ was active.
All port forwarding is done.

I replaced the network cable a month ago.

I don't think its my CPU

all firewalls allow BF1942 and ports...

im using a Linksys WAG325N router. 3 computers are networked off it. The computer upstairs to the server is the one I use to play and the one downstairs is the one operating the server.

I need to test my networking card....

I can connect via the add server function using both internal and external IP

Internal for Server: 192.168.1.100
Internal IP for me: 192.168.1.102
External IP: 202.154.154.179

Anyone with Battlefield 1942, the server is called CFE Training Server. Please connect and tell me your ping and if you get disconnected or not:)

DMZ is disabled...

I will try allowing specific ports through the windows firewalls tomorrow.

Thanks:cool:
When you are connecting to the server are you telling it to connect to Internal for Server: 192.168.1.100
or External IP: 202.154.154.179. The trying to connect to your other machines IP after bouncing off the IP set to both machines might yeild strange effects. Kinda like dividing by zero. If you could force it to connect to 192.168.1.100 might work better. Excuse me if thats how your are doing it, but just covering all the bases here.

In general though it sounds like something I've experienced with Routers when a friend and I would try to LAN/IP games between our routed machines. LAN = worked great. IP = a mess unless there was a dedicated server outside our network running somewhere. Would take a lot of jimmying with firewalls and routers to finally get it to work right.
I think its either my networking card or my router

I did this once before, but I never had a problem. I had a Billion 7100 ADSL VPN Firewall router back then.

Now the Linksys. I have ruled out DMZ and port issues, as others can connect with no issues what so ever.

What I find weird is when I go into Battlefield 1942 it says that I don't have a local server going. It won't show in internet either. Yet when I put in 192.168.1.100:14567 It starts loading the damn map.
Then I got the server to show in the LOCAL list, but it took 5 mins to find it, and it was called BFSERVER instead of CFE Training Server. Ping of 15....

I connect with 192.168.... And I get kicked after 5 mins...or sometimes instantly. the 202.154.154....I get the same thing.

LOCAL now dons't show a thing anymore. And I can see it in the Internet section and so can others! They can play fine...there are six in there now. All with pings of 40 to 120. And I just get disconnected.

That just shouldn't happen!

I bet its my router...would port triggering help? Any otehr router setting that might help?
http://www.speedguide.net/read_articles.php?id=177

Try digging through that. The DNS information might be the fix you need.

Also uPNP on some routers can be the holdup. It should be enabled for something like this.
I ping myself...with that IP. 127.0.0.1 and I get a ping thats in the billions.

I get -7 for all the requests and an average of 1100345432ms

Then on the second go its fine... 0ms

On the third go....same again...

A trace rout says its finished at one trace. I think I got rid of the static IP setting on the server computer. Maybe thats it.

And uPNP should be enabled.
So I was told last night by my ISP that it was a problem with my network...

I promptly said "duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" (Literally!)

My ping are the same to the computer operating the server as they are in the attachments. I was told running the server on my own computer would make me the server and it would be technically imposable for me to randomly disconnect without me freezing up, crashing lagging, or switching it off while playing. So I'm lost even more.

I will post the letter I sent to EA Games with all the info on it soon.

Also, if worst comes to worst. Is there a way I can just reset my home network all together, clear things up and star a fresh?

Cheers:cool:

EDIT:

Letter sent to EA Games:

Hi,

I have recently had a problem with my server I host. It has driven me up
the wall. here is the issue.

I setup the server today to do filming. It works great. I can access it
with Battlefield 1942 Remote Manager 2.0 (final) and use the server manager
which is also 2.0 (final)

I had 6 people on today for three hours, they had no trouble and really
enjoyed their stay. Then I decided to play. I tried to log in, but
couldn't see the server in the "Local" server list within Multi-Player. I
resorted to the ADD SERVER feature, entered the IP and port number and it
connected fine. After about 5 minutes of game-play, I got disconnected from
the server. I was confused, my PING averages 0-3 and I have no problems
with others playing at all.

I have an 8.0mb connection with 8mbp/s DOWN and 128kb/s UP
I'm using The Battlefield 1942 Server Manager 2.0 Final from black-bag-ops
Battlefield 1942 Remote Manager 2.0 Final from black-bag-ops
This is what I get when I ping my server located downstairs to mine.

-------
Ping statistics for 192.168.1.100:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = -8ms, Average = 1073741820ms
-------------

I am using a Linksys WAG325N ADSL 2+ Router
Cabled with every computer relevant to the server

Sometimes my ping spikes to 110 and goes back to 0 and averages 3 again. I
tried hosting the server with the same settings on another computer, and I
got the same result. I had the server running on my computer, and started
playing, and I got the same issue. I disconnected. Sometimes instantly as
soon as I try to load the map. Other times when I play around. and when
just waiting for it to happen.

I checked the server logs, and the server did not crash, I know this for a
fact.
The internet works a treat. I can access anything I want and everything
works fine, as well as connecting to other Battlefield 1942 servers. I got
a ping of 120 from a server in Prague. Which is very good for a New
Zealander.

My ISP is Actrix Networks, on full speed connection.

I have port forwarded everything I need, and all are working, as others can
see the server and connect. (ports listed bellow in the screenshots attached
along with Direct X Diagnostic Report and ping tests to both my Internal and
External IP)

192.168.1.100 is the IP that is used for me to connect to the server, as the
server is running on the computer with that IP.
202.154.154.179 is my external IP. It is not static, but is visible in the
Server list. and others can connect.

I have not done any 'port triggering' or anything else. I find it strange
my 'LOCAL' server doesn't show in the 'LOCAL' server list. And when it does
I need to wait around 5 minutes after hitting the refresh button to actually
see it.

Any help would be appreciated!
Hope that covered everything.

Regards,
David Hall

There seems to be no solution, what so ever...anywhere!
I gotta say I'm a bit stumped myself there. Its one of those problems that seems 'obvious' yet theres several things that could be wrong and its tricky to sort them out. Sorry I was'nt much help and you can't get it sorted out.
