ok, so for a few days now i've been trying to decide on what I want my combat character to be. Tenacity is my trading ship and will remain such... but trying to decide on a character identity/ship/background has been a bit difficult...

Right now I'm considering a generic Pirate ID'd character, with liberty rogue affiliation. Up until now I couldnt seem to find the rogue gunboat on any bases, finally discovered it on the molly base in newcastle, and I have to say the ship looks awesome (well, it looks pirate-ish anyways) and it seems to handle fairly well... love the skull insignia on the sides and front as well =)

So, to you other pirates out there that use the liberty rogue gunboat... how do you like it? How's it fare against traders in things like advanced trains, and how does it do in pvp against VHF's and capships?

Also, more a generic question... does anyone support using a full loadout of gunboat missile turrets? I see very few people using missile turrets on any capships, due to slow refire rate and such... but I rather like the idea of blasting the enemy's ships apart and knocking their equipment off their ships so they cant continue attacks against me. The missile turrets also seem more cannonball-like, fitting of a pirate (full broadside, anyone?).

Anything else you add would be appreciated, RP tips and whatnot.
Rouge GB for me works wonders...

All missile load out is bad idea in more ways then one...
missle turrents use alot of energy and arnt great against sheilds, just make sure you have a CD as traders will not pay and even if you have a CD they probly wont pay
dissappointing... I thought it'd be cool to use a missileboat =(
Its good to have a small number of missiles (usually a pair for a gunboat)- they own VHFs and bombers better than Solaris, or so I've heard. However, glhfdd trying to nail a LF in one, or getting a respectable dps against capships- they're easy enough to dodge in small craft, and don't fire fast enough to be worth the energy cost in a full out broadside engagement. Oh yeah, did anyone else mention that? They drain energy like monsters. Not as bad as cerbs, but pretty bad.

Actually most traders will pay gunboats. They have the dps to muscle through the shields, usually, and are virtually impossible to kill unless you trade in a battleship/cruiser, or a well outfitted Luxury Liner you've practiced PvP in.
I'm not so concerned with the traders, I probably wont ask too much from them to keep things fair, might even ask for cargo instead of money! Y'know, like real pirates should.

"Ey boys, this one's got food! Oy what i'd give fer a steak after months o eatin this maggoty cornbread!"

I mean no disrespect but this is baloney. I attacked/attempted pirate an advanced train in a Sabre, with a Gunboat hanging around that was friendly with me, and we just owned it. We told it to stop, refused so I train CD'd it, atacked us, I jsut ripped its shield apart and destroyed it.

VHF CAN take on advanced trains easy, if they have train disrupter, and class 9/10 weaponry, I admit it isn't fast, mines can help.

I heard that the the rogue GB works a treat, not the most agile but does pack a nice punch.:)

I have to say, unless the Gunboat is smart, I probably won't pay them. I mean, of course, I'll get away, my life and the life of my crew is far more important then two million credits. Just because you can outdo your run-of-the-mill pirate in terms of damage output doesn't mean every trader will bow down to you. If you're smart, we'll pay, but if you try to lord it over us and don' pay attention, we'll get away no matter what you do.

I personally dislike a lone Pirate Gunboats pirating people. Since they're Capships, I always expect an escort, even when it is like 1 person, it makes more sense than a lone capship going around demanding moneys from people. I respect lone Gunboat-Sized Bombers way more (Haha, Barghests).

Oh, ya, and I really wish you luck finding someone to go broadside with you. I could never find anyone who wanted to broadside with me in an IMG gunboat (Maybe because it was so small)....

There is my two cents on Gunboats.
You aren't a real pirate until you've mugged someone with a starflier.
