on this wonderfull server, one thing i have noticed..

there are too many super RP's around
Super RP's are rp's that are too , er, un realistic, that are creative but too.... super

one example is :

a guy is infested with nomads, gets his nomad cut out and goes crazy and escapes the holspital

now That would be VERY uncommon, but too many people are making crazy, uncommon, super RP's
i know people dont want to be an average guy who wants to get rich off the booming space industry
but we have to cut down

an ideal RP should only be a bit crazy

my trader: Adalbert Krabbelarr , a new berlin born man, started off as just an ordinary guy willing to get rich off the booming space industry, but instead finds himself sold as a slave to clean a pirate gunship, the slave tips off local police about the whearabouts of the pirate captain and gunship is captured , Adalbert Krabbelarr is granted an old, surplus humpback from daumann heavy costruction to deliver all sorts of machinery from one base to another, he earns enough money and becomes less envolved with daumann, only delivering niobium once a week.

My outcast: Adam aspe, a youngout cast with rich parents who provide all the tech before he learns to use it..
dunno about it. to each one his own.

Elizabeth "Jinx" Tate is just a businesswoman gotten rich and being transferred responsibility for a guardduty after some time. - nothing fancy there.

Cheshire is a lowbie BHG. one of the common members. - criminal youth, a BHG program to resocialize young criminals into the community again - and is now flying a BHG fightercraft.

Richard Bach ( Sanctimony ): common trader, nothing fancy about him. he is making money - preferably exploiting others bad luck ( he s doing weapons to crete now, that the civil war may start )

Clover: idealistic Gaian, but more on the pirate side.

Cezar Fezini: damn lazy and skill-less pilot of the LPI. kind of a poser - oh, and he dies for donuts.

Conan is not crazy... I just needed to explain how he sounds so stupid but can pilot a space vessel and pirate. I wouldn't call it SUPER just more interesting than a bump on the head... by the way I'm not done with it yet.
Well, everyone is the hero of their own story, & alot of people simply don't want to pretend to be average.

Put 1000 people in a room who believe in reincarnation & poll them on who they think they might have been in another life, & how many would drop a name we all heard of?

...Far too many.

People wanna be Alexander the Great, Cleopatra, Churchill, ect.

Very few would entertain the posibility that they might have just been a serf who died of starvation in an alley at the age of 20...

Alot of people just create extraordnary characters to feed ego, instead of RP'ing ordnary characters living in an extraordnary environment.

Personally, I just chug along.
In France, we have a saying : "every body had a king and a chicken thief in his ancestors"
it's usually followed by something like : "of course, most people prefer to talk about their king father..."

question of ego, and... People with normal life are represented by NPCs (rookies)... So, why would "elites" (term to talk about players) be as normal as NPCs... I think we have the right to do (not too much, stay in "reasonable" limits) backgrounds that goes out of ordinary life...

my chars are describe down here... Check and tell me if they are too much...

EDIT : don't make too much RP, this kills it, reasonable RP using common sense is better than "blowing 4 planets to escape a subespace monster, reincarnation of your wife you assassinated with a spoon"
I agree with Pim whole hartedly. The NPCs are (Joe six pack) We the (200 max) players vs. the innumerable NPCs, are the elite of what ever we do in comparasion. The NPCs are there to be normal, we are there to be interesting.

In other words the wake up and make enough to pay the bills guys are the NPCS we have the privledge to be special.
I disagree. Only one of my characters can conceivably be called elite, and he's a superorganism.

Gerhard is an officer, somewhat more fanatical than others but still a fanatical officer among thousands. His life isn't abnormal by Kriegsmarine standards, he pretty much carries out normal orders and assignments.

Hiroyoshi is a young enlisted in the Kaigun, who's only truly unusual feat is annoying a Hogosha boss in university after being lured into a prank. Other than that, he's a Kaigun golden boy, and the only truly remarkable thing about him is being under the most politically influencial and largest-in-command Taisho.

Alois is a young underinquisitor, which isn't an unusual position for some more dedicated KDGA followers. He's chosen to join the RBP for a slightly more secular role, but he's still a party-line spouting zealot.

Arbiter is the only one of my characters that can truly be called elite or unusual. He is an entity capable of writing his DNA over that of blank host bodies if his original body is destroyed, and a super-version of a Slomon K'Hara assassin.
Lets see...
I've an admiral, who's tired and breaking, but still doing his job, sad old man really...
An old gentleman, jack of all trades who's done everything, (85 years old, he's the lifespan for the experience),
A single mother Businesswoman...Okay, okay, Juno's uber young, and adopted, and has a dubious history...but the only thing Uber about her is that she's a wicked intelligent businesswoman with a mafiosa bent..
Sam Windsor, captian in the armed forces, decent pilot, crush on a specific kusari bloke...
Sophie Richthofen, though...She's twisted. not superpowerd, but horribly demented.
Catalina is a corsair, nice girl...thats all, really..
Sara Lee, though. Geneticly engineered and designed as an ace pilot, inserted into the xenos to cause trouble...she does certainly qualify.

Generaly, I consider the superhero rp a noobish mistake...its much more interesting and fun to be normal.
calling player characters "elite" is a misnomer...it's just a word to distinguish PC's from NPC's

The way I see RP is that a person should play their character in the most realistic way they can in the context of their environment & simply not add uberness to the character just for the sake of being uber.

But if someone does, that's just the way they wanna come across to others

Outside of game mechanics, I don't see any universal IC difference between PCs and NPCs. Certainly, there is a massive difference between Kanzler Rheinhardt and the escort of an ALG freighter, but is there really any roleplay difference between someone low ranking in a faction like the LPI and the average LPI NPC (beyond the varying portrayals of "Robocops vs bastards vs Keystone Cops vs corrupt shysters" and their differences in command)?
