Clarify why we do this again... - Ximen_Benitez - 09-17-2008

Ok, maybe this has been brought up a million times and I am just unware of it... maybe I've seen if before, and I've forgot, call it bad memory if you must.

Here is my question. I AM NOT looking for a rule change, I am looking for a reason of HOW this rule HELPS gameplay. If it could be proven by a couple examples, I'd love it. Please don't flame or anything.

When a person CRUISES away from a fight- he has "lost" and now must leave the system for 4 hours correct?

When a person thrusts away from a fight- if a person CRUISES to chase them, it is sanctionable, correct?

Well, in my view, if I cruise away from a fight I know I cannot win, why do I have to leave the system? I mean, in all reality, I'm still alive and I made a smart move to avoid death. If the person wants to chase me, good for them, but if I make it out alive- why do I need to leave, when in Roleplay I am still alive. My ship has not blown up, I just made a wise move to get out.

Call it hiding, call it strategy, call it whatever you want, but I don't see how this rule helps. Is it just to make things easier to handle? Less confusion all around? Less rules etc?

Thanks for clearing this up.

I agree totaly with you, if i escape death why the hell would i leave system? So that the ones that attacked
me can wait at next JH or something? Imo that rule should be changed so that you dont have to leave
system, but you can't attack again.

Agreed.

Obviously reengaging anyone would be totally out of the question; as it would cause too much controversy; but leaving the system is a bit much I think.

Meh, whatever.

What I still don't get is what if you're defeated in a fight in your faction's home system, or a system you use a lot for good reasons, do you still have to leave that for 4 hours?

Meh, whatever though. I tend to save the bother by logging off the dead character and either playing another character or do something else.

I'll say it again:

The rule needs to be changed to:

"If you flee from a fight via thrusters, docking, or cruise engines - you may not engage any players who were involved in the fight for four hours."

We should be able to remain in the system, but we should not be able to re-engage that player. If that player engages you first, you can fight back in defense or flee again, but unless you die you shouldnt need to leave the system.

Would be nice to maybe say if you flee from a fight without sustaining any critical damage (In other words he fired a few debs and you ran) your okay.

Or if you fight and you got tons of damage and flee - You gotta leave and/or remain docked at a friendly base for maybe 30 minutes-an hour as your ship is being repaired?

If the rule with leaving system didn't exist then:

1. You fight a pirate and almost kill him but he runs

2. He repairs at the nearest base
3. He starts to pirate some other part of the system
4. You find him again

and

5a. If we say he should leave now then say he goes to cruise again.... and pirates some other place in system, making you chase him around all the time.

5b. If he can defend against your attack, he fights back.. almost dies.. and runs again to the nearest base where he repairs.. and we are again at point number 2.

Remember that the pirate CAN leave before any shots are fired, just as he sees you on radar. Then he doesn't have to leave the system even in current rules.

Also if he flees only on thruster out of range (5k+?) he has to leave system as well.

Two words. Shield running. Allow a BS to start cruise (and some are unCD-able) and he'll be back in 2 mins with full shield.
No thanks.
Have a nice day.

It's common sense and good behavior, to let the "enemy" be if you left the fight. However a lot of people lack common sense and good behavior, so i suppose that's why there is the "leave system" rule. That way you make sure the fleeing person won't reengage and talk his way out of it.
