Currently, it has a very slow fire rate.

Is it possible to make it more like the vanilla gun and have a higher rate of fire and in return, properly scaled down damage per shot so it remains with the same damage per second as the current version.

Considering what its purpose is, I think it's fine where it is. It is designed to take out enemy capital ships, probably mostly cruiser's and above, and as slow as those are, I really don't think we need a faster refire rate on it.

why do you want it like that?

is it just to see the awsome effect more? if so. go buy some diamond backs and put them on a fighter. same effect.

But much smaller...


I think the vanilla intent was to make it look like a more or less constant stream of energy being burst from the cannon.

I think the vanilla effect was to simulate a salvo of shots being fired. I can imagine the cruiser firing its forward gun in a salvo of like 6 shots or so, then recharging for a while. Would this be possible to code? It gives me ideas for new weapons...

Just decrease the power requrement and damage output, you get more shots per charge, wheras now you get 3-4ish shots before running how then having to recharge.

As for why, I just want it to be a tad more like in vannila, where it will try to hit you with the gun even if your in a fighter.

a 2.0 refire rate (1.5 prehaps) and a corresponding change in other stats would make sense and fit in better with vanilla and how it was used (basicly the only time we see them in action against a bigger cap was the destruction of LNS Liberty, they show up and fire a steady stream of man gun shots until it dies.)

Weapons with higher refire rate are much more accurate than those with slower. Forward guns are ones you are supposed to aim carefully, not spray and pray.
Discovery is not Vanilla. It has changed far too much, and remember that Vanilla was not balanced to include capital ships for player usage.

As for the comments on 'quicker fire means easier to hit'

Not really, this is a weapon w/o any tracking ability at all, I belive it is the ONLY gun lie that in the game, other than the SNAC, which is on a nimble bomber.

Prehaps have two varriants of the gun avalible, the long range slow fire version, and a quicker firing (but same damage per second) shorter ranged version (say 2k range prehaps ). It is a LITTLE easier to hit with, yes, but not too much more so, plus you must get closer and cannot snipe a target at range.
