Should all main weapons(possibly minus shield busters) get a 1.5x (fighters 1.8x - 2.0x) damage buff? - Jonathan_Archer_nx01 - 06-03-2009 Not really a suggestion. Just a poll, ok? This applies to every ENERGY firing weapon from Justice mk1 up to Battleship defense turret. There are several reasons why I think it's worth a try: 1. We've got 2.5x armor upgrades widely used while weapons remain nearly as unpowerful as they were in Vanilla Freelancer. 2. Fighter vs. Figther combat lasts for ages, especially when those damn flat Eagles are involved. I don't really like it that way. I always get......well, don't wanna say bored.....tired, seriously. 3. Same thing can sometimes happen in Gunboat vs. Gunboat/Gunship combat. Today, me and my enemy both agreed to back off from a duel fight because we were battling for more than 20 minutes without any sign of ending. I had a lighter gunboat with only 4 forward firing turrets so I had to keep some distance and we were both dodging like crazy. 4. The most important one. As it is now, the most important tools in fighter vs. fighter combat are these: 1) SNAC 2) Minirazor 3) Shielbusters 4) Missiles - especially two versions back 5) Mines Normal guns are mainly used for finishing and not for dealing high amounts of damage and that to me, just doesn't feel right. Main guns should have the primary role in combat IMHO. Ok, then there are capital ships - Cruisers, Battlecruisers and Battleships. I realise THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH THEM, but the reason why they'd get a damage buff in this scenario is purely because of balance issues - as a result of changes to fighters and gunboats and I don't think that 1.5x damage increase would really hurt them. In fact, it might increase players' strategical awareness. It could force people to keep some distance rather than coming as close as possible to pew pew. So, here's the SUMMARY: Fighters - 1.8x, possibly 2.0x Capital Ships - 1.5x Just a thought............but I've been thinking about what to do with those forever lasting fighter battles for about a year, meh. Damage values and hitpoints are already screwed too high. I remember one fight when I was playing an Outcast, just finished a mission & along came a pirate with Corsair sympathies...well to cut a long story short we started fighting & not only did he use all his bats & bots, but he kept tractoring in the bats & bots floating about space. Still shudder with the memories & how sore my arm was. This is why I smuggle & if I want a fight I goto a different server. |
