A question for all the traders out there - captainjack - 06-27-2009

I had a run-in with a pirate today who demanded $300,000 credits for passage (a reasonable amount) but I only had $500 credits plus the cargo in my ship. The pirate declined to take any of my cargo and I told him that I would sell all of my cargo at the next base and give him the money for it, but he probably didn't believe me as I could have just logged off the game after docking. I ended up getting killed after not being able to pay, which is unfortunate because now I am stuck with $500 credits, no cargo, and a lot of mining to do. What would you do if you were stopped by a pirate and couldn't actually pay?

He agreed to let me log and /givecash him the amount. Guess you gotta be lucky with the pirate, and hopefully you'll get one not out to pew pew.

I didn't think he would have a problem with just taking my cargo as I had a little less than 1000 engine components, but apparently he didn't want them. I sat where I was for 5 minutes and offered him any amount of it that he wanted, but he never took me up on the offer. I managed to mine a little near Pittsburgh and I now have about $400,000 so I should be fine on credits, but thanks for the offer:)

Problem is most pirates on this server are flying bombers or gunboats, neither of which have the cargo capacity to carry more than a few thousand credits worth of cargo - most of them also dont want to deal with the hassle of travelling to a decent selling point when they could spend that time pirating other traders out of their hard-earned (i.e. painfully boring slow-earned) cash.

Seems most of the pirates on disco want money, not RP =P

then make them eject it, destroy the cargo, and send them on their way.

This happened to me once, and I kept it in character. I said that we just renewed our license and didn't have enough money to pay. I offered an extra 1 million credits if he escorted me to my destination, which was only one system away. The guy accepted the offer, and actually didn't end up charging me because he liked my roleplay.

And ruin the trader? Like what the op said? Let him pass, but remember his name. Get him later.

You should have told him that you'd pay him extra if he escorted you.

Also, it seems to me that if you had a ship that can carry no more than 1000 units and 500 bucks in your account, you should have been under level 30.
