A tall order for the order - Gamazson - 05-23-2007

After reading the Discovery forum and the forum for my fellow members of Black Squadron, I have notice a growing demand for new ships in the orders arsenal. As Igiss is a busy person, I feel that maybe the community could take care of a few of the steps.

Unfortunately the steps I refer to, I do not know myself. So I am going start in what could possibly be second gear. I have made a quick sketch (more accurately doodle) of my idea of a gunboat for the order.

I was thinking of a long slender ship with a keel like shape along the bottom. Only six turret mounts because I was hopping to have anywhere from 2-4 torpedo launchers on the front. As far as stats, I figure it to have the same maneuvering capabilities as a Corsair Gunboat with reduced armor and power. Something kinda like this...

Stats

Gun/Turret Mounts: 0/6
Armor: 95000
Cargo Space: 480
Max Batteries/NanoBots: 350/350
Power Output: 450000
Max. Impulse Speed: 80
Equipment Mounts: M, CM, 4xCD/T

Mass: 300
Steering: 70000 70000 120000
Angular: 120000 120000 140000
Rotation: 25000 25000 25000
Nudge-Force: 30000
Strafe-Force/-Powerusage: 20000/2

Opinions, suggestions or "shut up Nexus" would be welcome

Shut up Nexus!:P

Personally, I also think Order needs some new ships. Not the BS/Cruiser/GB/Fighter/Bomber combo that everyone is screaming for.. But a bit more than Fighter/BS.. I think they need either a cruiser or GB to put in there..

This GB's armor seems a bit high though..

Hmm thats the Armour of a Kusari gunboat which seemed to be the smallest I could find in existing ships, but I do not disagree, maybe 8500 or 7500?

I can tell you right away that it would not be allowed to have the 2-4 torpedoe slots. It would make the ship way too powerful. Increase the turret size and if it needs torps at ALL, give it one, and at max two.

Verginix Out

I think that a GB/Bomber combo would be an excellent Idea, it would bring mre purpose to the Gunboat class. perhapes to alow the torps the Speed could be darasticly dropped.

Must have missed the part about torps..

Definite no. The Mortars were created to be capship torps. You want a torp on it, buy a mortar. What is it with people thinking they should get torps for capships? They are on fighters for a reason, and there is a reason mortar was made.

My apologies, I was under the impression that Gunboat class ships could not support mortars. I will hit the drawing board again and come up with something else. A Torp Gunship is what I intended this concept as.

Be Back Soon......

No GB, bomber combo. Way too powerful. I think a straight gunboat, seeing as they do most of their fighting in asteroids, a cruiser's a tad large for that. I know somebody (Vaporlinx?) is working on an Order GB right now, and I'm trying (very slowly) to make an Outcast Dreadnought that doesn't look like a blimp.

Ok then, I will stay out of the discussion and let the pros work.

I think y'all are just ratting on his design.

I think it's great, Nexus, although the 2-4 torp slots would make it unbalanced... a lot.

Everyone's just being rude because we already have a model for the Order GB, Denelo's.

So... maybe use it for something else?
