The Ichihara Crisis - KNF/KSP vs. GC/Kiretsu/bd/MM - Denelo - 04-29-2011 The Ichihara Crisis
In a routine operation, the Kusari State Police is transferring a number of prisoners temporarily interned in a penitentiary on Planet New Tokyo to a Fuchu prison. While no high-security prisoners are being transferred, the prisoners otherwise vary greatly, ranging from Blood Dragons to small-time software counterfeiters, and are being transferred for purposes ranging from trial to long-term imprisonment and, in some cases, execution. The prisoners are being interred for transfer on the Kusari Prisoner Transport Vessel Ichihara, a low-security Prison Liner. It is expected to be an easy, low-risk trip, with little chance of riot or attack. The KPTV Ichihara's route takes it from Planet New Tokyo directly to Fuchu Prison in Shikoku. The Hijacking As the Ichihara prepared to jump to Shikoku, a normally-docile Blood Dragon prisoner named Kagome Sadao attacked one of his captors, and, more by luck than anything, managed to break the man's neck. He then used the guard's thumbprint and ID card to open his cell, and, after taking the guard's gun, cut off the man's thumb with his own blade. By this time, another guard turned the corner on patrol around the cells, and following a brief moment of mutual surprise, Kagome quickly put several shots in the man's chest. Realizing that the gunshots would quickly attract attention, Kagome began going down the cells with the sawed-off thumb and ID card, releasing prisoners as he went. By the time more guards arrived, they were outnumbered five-to-one, and, while they did manage to hit several prisoners in the ensuing ruckus, were overwhelmed by the sheer weight of numbers. Following Kagome's example, a few of the prisoners used the guard's own blades to cut off their thumbs, took their weapons, and began running around that level of the ship freeing prisoners. By this time, the rest of the crew had realized that something was seriously wrong. Three dozen guards were sent to the problematic level in riot gear. When they got there, however, it was clear that they would need far more than a few dozen guards to contain this riot. While hiding undercover, the guards radioed the bridge for more help. In a matter of minutes, though, these men, too, were crushed by the ever-increasing tide of escapees. As the prisoners swarmed up to the next level, the head guard on the bridge - one Himura Shoichi - began to get very worried. In that moment, he made a critical, fatal decision: he went against protocol and ordered all of his guards, including those defending such vital points of interest as the ship's armory, to go face the prisoners at an upcoming choke point to the next level. Himura hoped to stop the riot quickly and decisively by cutting the prisoners off from the rest of the ship and dealing with the massive horde a few at a time. Himura did not, however, count on the speed at which the rioters were moving. Before even a quarter of the new reinforcements had arrived at their destination, the prisoners were there, trampling each other in their haste to reach the ship's bridge. As the great press of humanity pushed its way through the level, the rest of the intended reinforcements found themselves trapped and isolated, and most were quickly overpowered. As the prisoners spread out throughout the ship, almost all of the three-thousand prisoners being transferred were freed in one way or another. Those on the bridge, watching their progress, quickly barricaded and sealed the bridge off from the rest of the ship. The prisoners, having finally taken over almost the entire ship, attacked the door with a ferocity born of adrenaline, excitement, and crowd madness, but could not breach it. Nearly a minute passed before a small group of more sane prisoners - lead by a Chrysanthemum named Nishimura Kameko, an embargo-breaker and GMG supporter named Tanaka Yasou, an arrest resistor and murder suspect named Mori Yoko, and a ship thief named Sato Toru - captured a small crate of grenades from the armory and used it to breach the door. The horde quickly poured in, but, under the angry shouting of this new leading group, captured most of the bridge crew rather than killing them. This small band of four - Mori, Nishimura, Sato, and Tanaka - took what control they could of the unruly crowd, directing former transport captains and crew members to their positions to fly the vessel as they began to negotiate with the liner's escort for both their lives and those of their captives. -------------------------------------------------------- Who: the official [KNF], [KSP], [GC], ]bd[, and MM~ factions. What: a jailbreak. When: Saturday, April 30th, 1800 GMT (2 PM EDT) Where: Kusari (the New Tokyo, Shikoku, Hokkaido, and Kyushu systems, specifically), Discovery Freelancer RP 24/7 Server Why: Activity, roleplay, and general fun -------------------------------------------------------- Overview Basically what we have here is a jailbreak/hijacking event. The KPTV-Ichihara gets taken over in a massively successful prison riot, and its new owners try to get away. The first part happens regardless, but success - or failure - of the second part is up to you. General rules and guidelines are as follows:
Any KSP who show up will begin as escorts for the KPTV Ichihara. If there aren't enough escorts (minimum 2), one or two KNF ships may be provided to help serve as escort. The rest of the KNF, however, will start at Battleship Myoko on Shikoku. After the Ichihara is hijacked, the prisoners will negotiate with their escorts for exactly 6 minutes, 30 seconds, at which point the Ichihara will begin trying to make its escape. At that point, the escorts will call for backup, which will including all participating KNF members and one boarding craft (Bumblebee). The goal of the KNF and KSP is simple, but difficult: To recapture the liner - intact - and rescue the hostage crew members. To achieve this, they will attempt to board the Ichihara. Rules
Boarding the Ichihara:
If the Ichihara is boarded, it will stop moving and remain stationary in space. At this point, the battle is up to the fighters. Whichever side wins the fighter battle is also the winner on board the Ichihara. Lawful Conditions for Defeat:
The Golden Chrysanthemums, Dragons, and Mandalorian Mercenaries will start at Ainu depot. They are the rescue party sent by the Chrysanthemum Elders to escort the Ichihara to safety. The goal of the unlawfuls is to return the Ichihara to Hokkaido, unboarded and in one piece. As an unlawful, you will likely outnumber the lawfuls. Therefore, come prepared for us to ask you to stand out. That being said, we will do everything in our power to make sure that that unhappy event does not occur, and that everyone gets to play. If you have a lawful character, however, we would appreciate it if you say so, and if you were willing to fly that character if - and only if - need be. The unlawfuls will wait at Ainu Depot until they are called by the prisoners upon the conclusion of the hijacking. We have timed the calling of the lawfuls and the unlawfuls so that they will arrive at approximately the same time. When you do arrive, your goal is to protect the Ichihara all the way to Hokkaido. Rules
You can obtain a partial victory by destroying all enemy fighters after the Ichihara is boarded. This allows you to crush the boarding party between you and the prisoners, but at the cost of heavy casualties among the people you were trying to save. Unlawful Conditions for Defeat:
The Route (click to enlarge): -------------------------------------------------------- Frequently Asked Questions Q: XYZ doesn't make sense because of ABC. Your event fails! A: Actually, it probably does make sense. I've spent the last week thinking through this thing pretty carefully. I'll address one or two of the most commonly-raised concerns I've run into while pitching this idea to people, but I honestly don't have the time or the space to address all of them. Q: What? They managed to do X as part of their escape from such a secure place as a prison liner? That doesn't make any sense at all! That's totally impossible! A: No, it isn't, it's just highly unlikely. I put several unlikely things in this story intentionally. You see, one-in-a-million chances happen... once every million times. In games, they happen to the players. The world turns as the speed of the plot, as the saying goes, and that's certainly true here. This is that once-a-century incredibly insanely lucky time for these prisoners. Yes, they got lucky. They got very, very lucky. Maybe someone forgot to follow protocol and issued stupid orders. Maybe someone was taking a bathroom break when they were supposed to be on duty, and that's why there was only one guard at first. This stuff happens, and when it all happens at once, some pretty unlikely stuff can happen. We're the Players Characters. We get to do that stuff, because NPCs doing it would just be boring. Cool, isn't it? Q: *grumble* I still think you're powergaming. No one is allowed to do anything unusual! We're all playing NPCs here, after all! A: Who, exactly, am I powergaming against? The lawful side of this was more heavily involved in the planning of the event than the unlawful side was. If I'm powergaming, that's some pretty weird powergaming, doing it with the consent of the other person and all. Also, as for playing NPCs, if you think that, feel free to go play NPCs all day long if you want. As for me, I'm going to play a PC. There are people who get to do special things in the world. These people are all people who either are PCs or matter to PCs somehow (for instance, as an old mentor). If we relegate the "specialness" to some stupid nameless background NPC no one will ever see or interact with, are we playing a game, or are we playing a world simulator? Q: This is planned for less than two days from now! Why such short notice? A: Because it was actually conceived of and planned much earlier this week, and we decided on a time then, not now. That said, if we don't get a good enough turnout here, we will reschedule to next weekend. I really don't want to do that, though, because it could conflict with other events (most notably the HF/LN one) going on on the 7th. Q: So what's your interest in this? Why are you organizing this? Why do you care? A: Hey! That's three questions, not one! Anyways, one of the characters on the liner ("Mori Yoko" in the story, though she calls herself "Yoko Mori") is mine. She was recently captured on a recon mission for the GC, and I like her as a character and want her back. Q: You suck. A: That's not a question. Q: Well, I just want to have the <strike>soup</strike> event my way! A: No <strike>soup</strike> event for you! Q: But X wouldn't do Y in Z way! A: That's not a question. Also, apparently s/he/they would, since s/he/they did. If you're talking about KNF procedures, I ran it by Bakamono, and he was all fine with it, so go complain at him. Q: Who's flying the Ichihara? A: I am. Q: How much longer does this stupid FAQ go on, anyways? A: Don't worry, this is the last question. -------------------------------------------------------- Signup Templates

Thanks to: Rogue_91, Jansen, Zukeenee, and Valen for cooperating with this event. Other thanks to: [|]-Shiba.Genji and all the other related pewpewing people whose names I've forgotten whose destruction of my ship gave me the idea for this event. <3 Extra special thanks to rewriteable and Bakamono, without whom this event would not be possible, and whose extensive help with timing testing for the boarding and backup calls made my life much, much easier. Seriously, guys, thanks. Questions? Comments? Signups? Post away! The Ichihara Crisis - KNF/KSP vs. GC/Kiretsu/bd/MM - Dab - 04-29-2011 It'd be nice if you didn't exclude the other GC official faction. Also, if it is done Saturday, I cannot attend (other Kiretsu probably can though). If it is done Monday or later, I can attend. The Ichihara Crisis - KNF/KSP vs. GC/Kiretsu/bd/MM - Korny - 04-29-2011 Looks pretty damn awesome there. Too bad that I can't make it. Sorry, I was under the impression that you and the [GC] kinda hated each others' guts and the Elders would never seen the Kiretsu on a mission like that (and that you didn't listen to the Elders in the first place). And, more to the point, I kinda forgot you existed. I've literally only ever seen one of you log on once. I must be logging on at all the wrong times or something. My bad for overlooking ya'll. Anyhow, ya'll want in, then? The Ichihara Crisis - KNF/KSP vs. GC/Kiretsu/bd/MM - Durandal - 04-29-2011 I'll be there on my indie KNF Chim, since I'm assuming the BD/GC will both outnumber and outclass the KNF/KSP. If not, maybe I'll do some recording. The Ichihara Crisis - KNF/KSP vs. GC/Kiretsu/bd/MM - Bakamono - 04-29-2011 [KNF]Si.Nekketsu , Chimaera, Bakamono I like this and will be at the Myoko barring any acts of god. But I've gotta get to work by 4:00, so if we're not done by then, Tomimoto will have to leave the party early. I'll probably be dead the moment fighting breaks out, anyway. The Ichihara Crisis - KNF/KSP vs. GC/Kiretsu/bd/MM - rewritable - 04-29-2011 I'll be <strike>dieing in</strike> flying [KNF]IKN-Bakafu if I make it to the start and know for sure that I can stay till the end (about 75% that I can). If not, let Bakamono fly the Bumblebee. I'll notify about that about an hour before event. |
