Freelancer Continuum - Phantom Mithras - 07-29-2011

Quote:29/07/2011 08:40 - Faction lore writers are needed!

As of current date, we are looking for members of Discovery official factions to write the faction lore for Continuum. I'm not saying that you will need to copy what the IMG (I'm making an example) is in Discovery and paste it in Continuum. I'm saying that having people who write from the perspective of someone who was in that faction, and feels that it should be different or if it should have some minor changes, is welcome aboard.

We are currently having several ideas in mind, of course these ideas will need to be approved prior to them being used as material on which the modding team will work on, to create, edit or insert said material into the mod.

As of annoucement, we are looking for people that are willing to write the background lore of the following factions:

Freelancers
Pirates / Smugglers
Slavers
Privateers / Mercenaries (They are new in Continuum)
Bounty Hunter Guild
Independant Mining Guild / Gas Mining Guild
Zoners
Outcasts

Other factions that we are planning to introduce:
Cult factions
Mercenary factions

We are aswell looking for people who have nice ideas regarding an unlawful cult faction, worshipping the Slomon K'Hara, scattered around the now abandoned Omicrons. (In Continuum, the Order perished aboard the Osiris during the Siege of Toledo - 800 AS )

In order to join the team, send us a PM or leave a comment.

Freelancer Continuum

A note for the moderating team. Excuse us for the images cropping outside from the forum layout. We'll fix this soon.

General Information Wrote:Continuum is a newly started modding and story effort by the recently formed FCD Team, also known as Freelancer Continuum Development Team. Our basic goal is to create an open Universe for a player base up to two hundred elements, which is the server restriction of Freelancer, in which the players are the ones who dictate how their character will develop and live within the Sirius Cluster by following a roleplay interaction between them. This isn't meant to be another player versus player mod, but a very immersive roleplay environment in which the word catastrophism can define everything. Nothing and no one is safe in space, not now and not in the future, space is a thing that man cannot control yet.

But be aware of the new dangers of space, dangers like the criminals making a living out from pirating traders and miners, wars between Houses, or even more present and terrifying, space anomalies ranging from general radiation to neutron stars and black holes.

What is the story?
The story is more dark and deep in Continuum, a story in which a happy end rarely happens in the events occuring in Sirius. A black hole as a result of a failed experiment of Liberty, a civil war in Rheinland, the danger of a greenhouse effect system-wide in Leeds, Bretonia, or the random criminal that awaits merchant vessels in order to pirate them.

The other fact that you should be acknowledged about is that fact that The Order perished during the Nomads Wars, every single element went down with the Osiris during the siege of Planet Toledo. The Nomads are known to have inhabited the Edge Nebula, will fate mark you as the chosen one to save humanity once and for all? Or shall you fail miserably?

What is the center element in this mod?
Catastrophism in the very meaning of the word. If you don't manage to control your fate, it will end that the fate will control you, leading you to discover unknown and deadly places, most times of which will be fatal.

Said this, I want to remember someone in this forum that around the end of March, the start of April, Folgore, who requested then to be banned by Cannon for 1 year, announced that he was working on a spinoff of Discovery. But we decided instead to make our own mod, with our own story, and without using material from other mods. So, no. Continuum isn't Discovery if you were wondering about that.

Where is the mod development team? Who are they? Where are they?

The modding team of Continuum is generally formed by some ex-Discovery members, and by the SWAT Team, who decided to lend us a hand after that they've seen the progress that we did so far. The Continuum Development Team is based over at TheLancersReactor.org, a well known site that in the past had some contrasts with another Freelancer Modding Community, The Starport.

Progress is on the highway, with the lore development team, the audio development team and the modding team working together and keeping a constant mod progress.

What are the requirements that you need in order to play Continuum?

Well, you'll need a medium gaming machine, since the polycount on the models can get a bit heavy to manage for a 8 year old machine. But I think that we'll manage to make different versions so that everyone will be able to play and enjoy what Continuum will offer.

[color=#FFFFFF]Little spoilers

Quote:The cityscape of Planet Manhattan has been completely redesigned. The model will be textured and then inserted into the mod. As you can notice, we are giving everything for a nice visual impact. The black color was used to evidence some parts, since being all white would be hard to notice all the details. The city will be surrounded by water, since the real Manhattan is surrounded by water aswell.

Quote:In this image you can note a group of experimental warships that we are developing for the Liberty Ship Line. I need to remind aswell that capital ships are restricted in Continuum, the Admin Team (acting as the Government in a House's respective space) will grant them to players which prove themselves worthy of leading a warship. This doesn't means that if you'll be a nice chap, we'll hand over free capitals. Starting from the left to the right: LNS Unity (LNS1EBC), LNS Pride of Liberty (LN-FG1) and LNS Camelot Rising (LNS-EW1). Black in this case is used again to evidence important parts on the ships. Black and white isn't the final texture, so don't worry.

Quote:The crew of the Mississippi and the ship itself was lost during the event known as the 'Awakening' , an event derived from an infamous experiment executed by the Liberty Government over 400 years ago, in the then safe system of Texas.

Quote:The civil war in Rheinland caused billion GSC (general sirius currency) damage around Rheinland from its start.

Quote:Interspace Commerce made some updates. As I've mentioned in the other images, our basic goal when doing something, is to make it the best as possible.

Quote:A tiny outpost of the Kusari Empire. Outposts like this will be scattered around Kusari, they'll be located at important trade lane junctions or Jumpgates.

Quote:The idea of big, heavy and bulky was respected in this case. This Rheinland Mining Station will be a common sight around Rheinland's asteroid fields.

Quote:Apparently Liberty's main heavy construction company, DSE is reviewing the style of its stations. The command post of the Liberty Navy and of the Liberty Police will replace Fort Bush.

Quote:Speaking of headquarters, the Kusari Naval Forces will get something nice in New Tokyo aswell.

Trying to Continuum-mize the main menu. Giving it a window style. Any ideas?

This is what we came up with the first time.

Link

The server rules would be posted on the main page, so that everyone can read them before they access the multiplayer side of the mod. The window behind will be well.. like a window on the intro.thn behind.

More to come. We'll avoid to reveal how the lore changed in the game, so that the player will be able to experience it himself when he will play for the first time on Continuum.

[color=#FFFFFF]Nice idea I will definitely check it out when it is out...

P.S Why can't we have devs like those.....
Why? Look at the Libertonian station, it screams Art Deco just as the original Libertonian line

Meanwhile you can check out our YouTube page to hear some scores made by our Audio development Team.

This looks and sounds pretty cool, seeing how The Nomads won, complete re-design too. Also, what happened to Kusari?

Also, TELL ME THERE IS NO GALLIA!!

Fletcher.

There is no Gallia.

The Nomads left Sirius after that they defeated the Order, but a more ancient and deadly enemy is starting to plague Sirius, while humanity is fighting against itself.

There is no Gallia (since it's part of Discovery). Continuum is developed by keeping in mind that having 'empty-systems' is just worthless for the playerbase. Having 10 or 20 players in a system will be our goal.

And to answer your other question. The coupe-d'etat of the Samura went wrong, and now the actual government of Kusari are the Dragons, and Samura is now an unlawful movement. Kishiro became the main heavy construction/trading company of Kusari.
