Just wanted to run this by the players on discovery...
Basically, I'm writing up a lot of RP and background on what will be my future Order character - Aki Kimura. She'll be flying a zoner gunboat as part of a joint order/zoner project, which is detailed in the RP i'm working on.
I wont actually be flying the character until the 4.85 version is out, since I want her to start out using that gunboat (currently, she's serving onboard an osiris battleship as XO, which will be destroyed in the story - at which point she is promoted to commander of the gunboat).
Anyways, the first in-game RP event I want to work on with her is charting as much of the unknown systems as possible. As most of you know, while in the unknown systems your system map doesnt work, you simply get a blank screen and "nav map not available" message. My goal is to go through and completely scout these systems, labelling which sectors and coordinates have each jump hole, base/station, or other items of importance.
Think it's worth the time?

If I get others helping protect my ship, maybe. From what I've heard the zoner gunboat will be... less than capable... when it comes to pvp combat.

You've obviously never flown a Nomad Gunboat. Whoo! Three forward facing turrets! Whoo!

that would be quite interesting actually, mapping an un-mapped system in-game.
I'm sure I can get in there somehow, maybe the research vessel?

This fits in perfectly with one of my Zoners, Jacob Orine. I haven't done much RPing with him yet, since I wanted to get him and my friend's character Mark Harris set up simultaneously, but he's the leader of a small group focused on exploration and, more recently, looking for possible hidden Nomad bases. And this gives me time to finish getting him set up, too...
So, if you want some further fighter support and me being a Zoner isn't an issue (but Zoners and Order are allies, so it shouldn't be), just let me know.

well aside from the keepers and occasional nomad NPC groups... it will be a rather uneventful process...
Basically, plotting a zig-zag course through every sector in every unknown system, and stopping any time something comes up on the scanners to record what it is and it's location. It'll probably endless hours of boring cruise mode =P
Which is why I wasnt expecting to make a big RP event out of it with other players involved, I'm sure many have better things to do than fly around on cruise for a few hours straight looking for hidden junk.
But... it fits the RP of my future order ship perfectly. It's zoner designed but uses new order stealth and reconnaissance technology. Most of the RP undertaken by the character will be covert in nature, either getting into liberty and the other houses or scouting into nomad systems.

Been there, done that... Currently beating a dead horse, but hey, I wont stop you.
I've been in just about every system (around 170 ish) so if you need help, just hollar... I can point you toward these blank systems in need of mapping.
