seriously, almost all of the Europeans i know on skype go to sleep earliest 5:00am during their own local time... what's up with that?

We never sleep, we just rest our eyes.
But to be honest, it's up to the individual to decide when enough is enough and fatigue takes it's toll.

Seriously, as German I can say, that most european people go to bed at ~1:00am during the week. At weekends it's like you said "earliest 5:00am". It might be because people enjoy in playing drunk after having a booze at the town.

Some people's sleeping rhythm is seriously frakked up I say. But yeah, what Narco said basically, ~ 1 AM during weekdays and sometime in the early morning on weekends is the average I guess. I personally don't manage to stay up till 5 AM, not even on weekends..
